Marriage and Kids (December 3, 1996)
"Eva La Rue and John Callahan jettisoned tentative plans to marry in Lanai, Hawaii, when word of the location leaked out. Not
even the 10 friends and relatives they have on standby for the new wedding date the new wedding location. Says Eva:
'We just
told them "OK, we finally decided on the place, and we'll let you know where it is two days before; just hold the weekend
open."'
It's doubtful that weekend is imminent. For one thing, Eva's been too busy filming the ABC TV-movie
Out of Nowhere up in
Calgary, Alberta, to do much shopping around for a wedding dress. 'I'll probably have to have something
made,' she says - 'and, as
we all know, that could take a good couple of months.' At any rate, Eva doesn't want
'a full, big, bridal gown things with the foofs
and frills and lace and stuff. And I don't want to wear white. What I really like is
ice-blue.' Eva suddenly laughs and says, 'You
know, I keep going up to Kelly and Mark and saying, "You guys were smart - you just ran
away."'
Kelly was just as quick with a quip when John showed her the engagement ring he got for Eva.
'She was the only person who
saw it before we left for France (where he proposed),' says Eva. 'Kelly loved it. She said,"John, this gets you six months' worth of
points."' The ring, composed of 9 diamonds - a radiant-cut square center stone flanked by two baguettes, then four rounds, then
two marquises - represented his ingenious solution to Eva's indecisiveness. 'I kept changing my mind every month about the cut I
wanted - square, marquise, round - so he said,"Honey, I got you all of
them."'
Look for the word multiple to apply to babies as well as baubles once the LaRue-Callahans start their family. Eva has twins in her
family. Also: 'An astrologer told me that I will have at least one set of twins, and she wouldn't be surprised if I had two sets. I
thought: Oh, my god. Because I see the parents of the twins who play Sam, and man, they don't get any sleep. One of the babies
is always up, and there's always a diaper to change.' One benefit to having twins, Eva agrees, is that you can put 'em to work on
soaps. 'Their college is paid for!'"
