"Viewers of AMC feel an affinity to Eva LaRue (ex-Maria) through her real-life hubby John Callahan, who plays Edmund. Fans who lined up to see the parade of stars entering Radio City Music Hall for this year's Daytime Emmy Awards in New York City got to see what AMC fans have longed for- an Edmund/Maria reunion. (LaRue, of course, accompanied her husband, a presenter, to the event.) 'I'm never too far away,' LaRue told Update earlier this year of her association with AMC and ABC Daytime. 'I see everyone when I go with John to award shows and parties. I go to the studio to meet him and we'll go out for dinner.'
LaRue has a primetime recurring role as Brooke, Eddie Cibrian's TV girlfriend, on the series Third Watch. In one of the show's final episodes last season, Jimmy (Cibrian's character) referred to his fiancee, indicating LaRue's possible return to the show next season. The good news for AMC fans is that Third Watch is shot in NYC, where AMC is also taped. 'I think it would be very wise of ABC to try and get Eva back, even on a limited basis,' says a daytime insider. 'The writers have carefully constructed a triangle with Edmund, Alex and Dimitri. Adding Maria to the mix would be sensational. It's the stuff November sweeps are made of.'
One thing's for sure: LaRue wouldn't want to come back for just a brief period to wrap up a happy ending for Edmund and Maria. 'If you have a happy ending, there's no place for the characters to go,' she once pointed out.
If the truth be told, even having Maria come back as a ghost to give Edmund some love advice wouldn't be so bad!"
