You Gotta Have
Friends- Kelly and Eva
(SOD 7/22/97)
First Friend
LaRue Callahan: "Kelly was literally the
first person I met on the set, and I immediately thought, 'This is going to be a
fun place to work.' We'll always be friends because I'm her baby's
godmother!"
Ripa: "I asked Eva to be my second Lamaze coach, and Marcy Walker [Liza] carried a beeper to the Emmys so we could call if I went into labor." (LaRue Callahan had to work on the day Ripa went into labor and arrived 20 minutes after Michael Joseph Consuelos was born.)
Do Clothes Make the Woman?
LaRue Callahan: "There was a period that
was truly bizarre. I was wearing the maternity clothes, and Kelly was the one
who was pregnant."
Ripa: "What kind of denial were we in here? I'm wearing stuff dug up from the bowels of ABC, worn by characters long dead, and they're buying Eva new maternity clothes to fit her ever-growing belly."
LaRue Callahan: "My detachable belly."
Ripa: "It was so unfair. I was completely hormonally challenged and I was rotating two shirts."
One of the Girls
LaRue Callahan: "Kelly's a real
girlfriend's girlfriend. You can talk about heavy stuff with her over a hot
fudge sundae, and then she'll go shopping with you. Whether it's a good time in
our lives or we're bummed out about something, the other one will always say,
'Okay, it's time to have a fudgie goodness.' That's what we call it. So we'll
cry over our fudgie goodness and then go shopping."
Mum's the Word
LaRue Callahan: "Kelly is the best
secret-keeper of any actress I've ever known. Actors are the biggest gossips,
but we know that if we tell each other something, it won't go any further. I
trust Kelly implicitly. She's loyal to the core."
