Why They Left-
Michael Nader
by SOW 1/18/2000
"Nader became the
victim of a cast cutback in Pine Valley not once, but twice last year, All My Children's
viewers were wondering just what the heck was going on with their beloved Dimitri. First,
he embarked on a quickie marriage to the mysterious Alexandra Devane. Then, he died
mysteriously before they could return to Pine Valley. Fans rejoiced when Dimitri turned
out to actually be alive, but alas, his friends and family had their hearts broken for a
second time when the ailing Count apparently walked into the sea, never to be seen again.
At AMC's annual fan
event, executive producer Jean Dadario Burke took more than a little flak from the fans
regarding Dimitri's exit. Nader supporters were so outraged that they staged a one-day
tune-out of the show in November. Reportedly, Dadario Burke picked up the phone to let
Nader know that there was interest in having him come back on a recurring basis. But Nader
nixed that idea. However, he has said, 'If the network was interested in seriously
discussing Dimitri's return on a contract basis, I would love to go back.'
Dimitri's presumed
death is just that- presumed. He could easily pull a back-from-the-dead move just as other
Pine Valley residents like Tad Martin have done. One things for sure- while not everyone
is convinced that Alex (a.k.a. the widow Marick) is on the up-and-up, Nader was thrilled
to work with her portrayer, Finola Hughes. 'She's wonderful... and we hit it off right
away,' Nader has said. Maybe the duo will hit it off again!"
