Anna's Departure (August 26, 2003)
Both Anna and David are furious that Michael Cambias has gotten off on charges of raping Bianca and both entertain ideas of revenge. Bianca's departs Hayward's cabin after David confirms she's pregnant and David's playing with some concoction in his test tubes. He quickly jumps up as he hears a car door slam outside and someone coming to the door. An agitated Anna enters.

David: Hey.

Anna: What a bloody horrible day.

David: Yeah, no kidding. Here, let me take those. Can I get you something?

Anna: Yes, the head of Michael Cambias. Or a hot bath.

David: Well, that can be arranged. The bath, obviously.

Anna: You seem a lot calmer than you were at the courtroom.

David: I had some time to cool off.

Anna: Can I say thank you?

David: For what?

Anna: For telling the truth on the stand. I know you wanted to incriminate Michael. So do I. But lying about it would have just --

David: Well, maybe I should have. I mean, I did the right thing, right, and look what happened. A rapist walked.

Anna: I don't feel good about this, either. But we need proof.

David: Bianca's word, her testimony should have been proof enough.

Anna: I know that. God, I should have got better evidence. I should never have arrested him until I had that.

David: No, don't you do that. Don't you start beating yourself up. You did everything that you could. Come here.

Anna: I am very tense.

David: Well, that is something I can help with. Come on, turn around.

Anna: Oh, what happened today, I just can't imagine how Bianca feels, or her mother.

David: Alone.

Anna: Yeah.

David: I'm happy you came home. You once said that you believe that we can get through the pain together. Do you still believe that's possible?

Anna: I think if we are open with each other, we can get through just about anything. What is all that? Hmm?

David: That is just some research.

Anna: What kind of research?

David: Look, I know what you're thinking, and I don't blame you.

Anna: What is it?

David: That I’m going to spike the community lemonade or some party punch bowl.

Anna: It's not my bubble bath, is it?

David: No.

Anna: It's not perfume, that's for sure.

David: Look, it's nothing that I need to hide, all right? It's just a compound to potentially save people's lives.

Anna: It's a heart medication?

David: If it pans out. I think that it could help cure some damaged hearts.

Anna: Good. Good. Because there are a lot of hearts that need fixing.

David: Yeah. I don't blame you for being suspicious.

Anna: Really?

David: After what Cambias did to Bianca, believe me, I’d like nothing better than to medicate him straight into hell, but I won’t.

Anna: Well, not everyone has your restraint. My men at the station would all like to take the law into their own hands, and when Cambias smiled for the cameras, I wanted to finish him off myself. Actually, I better get back to the station.

David: What about your bath?

Anna: Yeah, I have a lot of paperwork to clear up, and I think at this time of night, I might just finish it. Besides, you're occupied.

David: Will I see you later?

Anna: Don't wait up. I might pull an all-nighter.
