Edmund and Alex Duck Bullets
At Palmer and Vanessa's party at the hotel they reside at, Palmer is shot by his hired thugs after jumping in front of Vanessa, the intended victim. Alex and David tend to a drugged up Leo and a bleeding Palmer. After David leaves with Palmer to go to the hospital, Alex overhears Erica ranting at Brooke for not stopping Jack and Edmund from chasing off the hitmen.  (Dec. 1, 1999)

The scene fades out, then returns later. Alex goes up to Brooke.
Alexandra: "Brooke, those last shots... did they come from the direction Edmund was running in?"

Brooke (motioning to the lobby): "From the lobby. After Jack and Edmund ran after that guy, there were more shots."

Phoebe (still being grumpy with Brooke): "Well. somebody had to stop them."

At that moment, Jack and Edmund enter, looking a little banged up.
Jack (to Edmund): "Next time we decide to play heroes, remind me to wear shoes I can run in."

Edmund: "Everybody here okay?"

Alexandra: "Palmer took a bullet to the chest. He's on the way to the hospital now."

Jack: "Is he going to be all right?"

Alexandra: "Yeah. Hayward's going to operate."

Brooke (admonishingly to Jack and Edmund): "We didn't know what had happened to you guys. I mean, you reckless, stupid thing you."

Jack: "Well, thank you for your concern, Brooke."

Edmund (to Derek who's covering the shooting): "The shooter had a partner, Derek."

Jack: "With a car waiting."

Edmund: "Yeah, I slowed him down."

Alex notices the blood on the corner of Edmund's mouth and goes over to him, touching his face and examining him.
Alexandra: "You all right?"

Edmund: "It could have been worse. You know, you can bounce off those big cars pretty easy."

Brooke (noticing that Jacks' hand bleeding): "Jack, what..."

Jack (quickly): "I got shot a little on my hand. I'll be all right, I think."

Alexandra: "Oh, can I take a look at that?" (She grabs his hand and drags him over to a table to examine it.)

Jack: "Yeah." (He sits down while she nurses his hand.)

Tad: "Faster than a speeding bullet. I'm impressed."

Jack: "Well, don't be too impressed, Tad. If I hadn't..." (He grimaces while Alex is working on his hand) "..ouch... if I hadn't slipped and fallen down, the second one probably would have gotten me right in the chest."

Brooke (alarmed): "What?!"

Derek: "Did you get a look at him?"

Edmund: "The shooter, yeah."

Derek: "Good. What about the plate number?"

Edmund: "Got the make and the model, but there were no plates."

Tad: "Professional, huh?"

Jack: "I guess."

Derek (to Jack and Edmund): "You two take a breather. I'll be back." (He leaves to question more of the guests.)

Jack: "Yeah."

The scene fades out, returns later. Edmund is seated where Jack was earlier and Alex is tending to his face.
Alexandra: "No, you're not going to need any stitches."

Edmund (smiles a little): "I could have told you that, Doc. It's not the first time I've had a bloody lip."

Alexandra (smiles, nodding her head): "Dimitri told me you were reckless."

Edmund (amused): "Oh, did he now? He used that word? That was pretty kind of him."

Alex stops smiling and goes behind a nearby chair, gripping the back with both hands. Alexandra: "Well, actually, he said, 'Edmund, that damn fool... if I don't watch him, he's going to get himself killed.'" (She smiles a little.)

Edmund (laughs): "Is there anybody with a bigger ego than an older brother?"

Alexandra: "Dimitri... self-appointed lord and protector of everyone in his life." (She looks a little sad.)

Edmund: "Lucky us."

The scene fades out, then returns later. Jack, Edmund, Brooke, and Alex are seated at a table with wine glasses.

Brooke: "Well, I say here's to the... I'd say... worst coming out party in Pine Valley history."

Jack: "Oh, I don't know. I kind of liked the surprise stepson for Palmer, that was a nice touch."

Edmund: "What was..."

Alexandra (to Edmund): "Do all your dates end up at shooting and brawls and..."

Edmund (teasing): "No, only the good ones. Why? You bored?"

Alexandra (smiling): "No, no. Here's to boring dates." (She raises her glass in a toast.)

Jack (referring to Brooke's mystery date): "Here's to dates that actually show up."

Brooke: "My date was here."

Jack: Sure, I just missed him at every turn."

Brooke: "I'll tell you, I wish that guy had missed Palmer."

Solemnly, the four all raise their glasses and quietly tap them together in a toast.
