Alex and Edmund Kiss (Feb. 21, 2000)
After overhearing David making disparaging remarks about her, Alex loses her temper and holds him in a vulcan-like embrace. Edmund walks in and he and David get into a yelling match over Alex. David leaves, and Edmund tries to calm down a shaken Alex. They're seated at a table at the restaurant, Alex resting her face in one of her hands.

Edmund: "Ok. Well, you obviously had some kind of martial arts training."

Alexandra (upset): "When? Why? I'm a well-educated woman. I'm a doctor, for God's sake. Why would I need to learn hand-to-hand combat?"

Edmund: "I don't know. I never had you pegged as a future Ninja."

Alexandra: "What scares me is that I don't know when this violent side is going to come out."

Edmund: "Ok. Listen to me. There's only two times I've ever seen you lose it. One, there was a guy at a mall with a gun at your head. All right? The other time is with David Hayward. He pushes your buttons. It was just self-defense."

Alexandra: "Right."

Edmund: "Yeah."

Alexandra (sarcastically): "David makes a sarcastic comment, and I come this close to putting him in a wheelchair for the rest of his life. Oh, yeah, that seems fair. Oh, I hate this feeling. I don't know how to control it."

Edmund: "Let's get out of here. Let's go back home, ok? Talk about it there."

Alexandra: "Yes. I think I've done enough damage here for one night." (She gets up to leave.)

Edmund: "Yeah." (They leave.)

The scene fades out, then returns later. They've gone back to the hunting lodge. Edmund is pouring drinks while Alex paces by the living room couch. She tosses her scarf down onto the couch.
Edmund: "Ok. So there are some chapters missing from your life story. But I'm willing to bet they'd make for some
interesting reading."

Alexandra (not amused): "Oh, I know you're trying to make me feel better." (He picks up the glasses and walks over to her, handing her one of the glasses.)

Edmund: "Once we sort out your past, things will be more manageable."

Alexandra: "Depends what's there, doesn't it?" (She takes a sip from her glass.)

Edmund: "We find out the whole story, it won't be as scary. And we will find it out. I promise you." (There's a moment of silence, then she turns to face him.)

Alexandra (looking at him gratefully): "I don't know what I would've done without you." (Surprised at her comment, he stops mid-drink and lowers his glass. She then looks away from him.) "I don't want to be around your children anymore."

Edmund: "You'd nev... You'd never hurt my kids."

Alexandra: "Can't take that chance."

Edmund: "Alex, I would trust you with anything. Anything." (He puts his glass down and walks around to face her.) "I know what you've been through. What we've been through together. I know you can handle this."

Alexandra (putting her glass down): "Oh. How do you know that?"

Edmund (taking her hand into his, he pulls her slowly to him.): "If Dimitri told you to trust him, wouldn't you?"

Alexandra: That's not fair." (She shakes her head lightly.) "You're not Dimitri. You're a completely different man." (There's a moment of silence as the two stare at one another.)

Edmund: "Yeah. That's right." (He leans closer and kisses her, pulling her closer as he cups her head with his hands.)

The scene fades out, then returns. They slowly separate, rest their foreheads against one another and stare at each other. Alex bites her lower lip and looks away. She picks up her glass, pulls her other hand out of Edmund's grip, and walks away. Edmund looks at a loss for words, both with their backs to one another.
Edmund (biting his lip, he slips his hand into his pocket, not sure of how to proceed): "Uh, Alex, I was..." (He puts his fist up to his mouth.) "...um, are you all right?"

Alexandra (taking a deep breath): "Yeahhhhhh."

Edmund: "Whoo." (He picks up his glass to take a sip, thinks twice, and loudly puts it back down on the table. He walks over to her.) "My timing is lousy. I'm sorry. Ahem."

Alexandra (turns to face him): "Well, I didn't stop you." (A moment of silence as they stare at one another.) ?Did I?"

Edmund (pauses before answering): "No. No, I guess I... at least you didn't kick me over the couch and toss me through the window." (She smiles at him and he smiles back.) "I threw myself at you, and I lived to tell about it. That's an improvement, you know." (She laughs.)

The scene fades out, then returns later.
Edmund: "Alex, I..."

Alexandra (interrupting): "No, don't. Not now."

Edmund (confused that she doesn't want to talk about it): "Because?"

Alexandra: "It's complicated, isn't it?"

Edmund (takes a deep breath): "Yeah...." (They're interrupted when the phone rings.)
[Telephone rings]

Alexandra (startled): "Oh. Sorry. Excuse me." (She answers the phone.) "Yeah?"

Reporter: "I'm trying to reach Dr. Alexandra Marick." (Edmund listens while putting on his coat.)

Alexandra: "Yeah, this is she."

Reporter: "This is Steve Ernst. I'm a writer for "U.S.A. This week." I just pulled a story off the wire service that says you single-handedly subdued a burglar at a shopping mall. Could I talk to you about that for a few minutes?"

Alexandra: "No. No comment." (She slams down the phone.)

Edmund: "What was that?" (She walks over to the coffee table, picks up the newspaper which has a picture of her on the cover, and holds it out for him to see.)

Alexandra: "A reporter."

Edmund: "Oh."

Alexandra (tossing the paper down): "Oh, I don't believe this is happening to me."

Edmund: "All right, listen, I'll handle your calls, ok? Don't worry."

Alexandra (touching his hand briefly): "No. You should go. I'm just going to crawl into bed and pull the covers up, and I just want today..." (She begins to softly adjust his tie.) "...all of it... to be over."

Edmund (smiles down at her): "Unplug your phone. Good night."

Alexandra: "Good night." (She watches as he leaves, then rushes over to the phone.) "Oh, hi. I'd like a flight, please, to London. No. One way." (She stares at the door where Edmund just exited.)
