Alex Admits She's in Love
After David taunts her and threatens to blow her cover, Alex admits to a furious Edmund that she was Dimitri's doctor. He storms off, even more certain that she killed his brother, and she calls her friend.  (Sept. 3, 1999)

Alexandra (on the phone to Sean, back in England): "He knows, Sean. No, not about that. He knows I'm a physician. Oh, there's no way of stopping him. He's going to keep digging. Yes, it will mean a quick escape to England, so you'll have to have everything ready as we discussed it. I don't know. Oh, I have no idea. It could be any time now. Yes. All right. So stay in touch? Thanks."

Hanging up the phone Alex thinks back to a conversation she and Dimitri had in England. They're back in the garden, seated on their bench.
Alexandra: "Oh, it's not bad news." (He's holding her hand. There's a pause of silence.)

Dimitri: "It's all right. It's all right. It's not what you wanted to say. What you wanted to say was that I was cured, that you'd save me, and all is well." (He smiles sadly at her.) "Instead, you had to tell me that we're on to plan b... and I'm sure it's a marvelous plan and it'll do really good, and then maybe there will be a plan c or d or whatever." (She nods her head. Another pause.) "It doesn't matter. What you have given me... in a way, my life was over when I came to you. I was planning to go to Vadzel and end it there. I was. I was." (She smiles, shaking her head in disbelief that he'd kill himself that way.) "So this... sitting here with you.. it's a miracle." (He looks at her intently.) "But I don't... I don't want you to be hurt anymore. I don't want this to be harder on you. Well, I'll find another doctor. I will leave the country."

Alexandra (shaking her head again): "You can't."

Dimitri: "Alex, it's all right."

Alexandra (getting teary eyed): "No, it's not. It won't help. Don't you see? You could go to Ethiopia, you could go to the end of the world, and I'd still stay awake at night worrying about you. I love you." (She laughs, embarrassed, and pauses.) "It's too late. Don't you see it's too late?"

Dimitri (shaking his head, pleased at her profession): "It's not. It's not, Alex. It... it's just begun. It's just begun." (He gathers her in his arms, Alex laying her head on his chest, and he stroking her hair.)

The scene fades out... later Alex recalls some words she said to Dimitri on another occassion while they're sitting in the garden.
Alexandra: "Well, I know what I'm asking of you. I'm asking you to hope. You must. You have to hope if you're going to believe. And you have to believe if you're going to live. Hope... hope."
