Finola and Fashion Week
Finola's love for fashion has led to design her own jewelry line, host Fashion Week in New York, emcee who's wearing what on the red carpet, and now she's host of her own show on The Style Network called "How Do I Look."

D.C. Grist - Nordstrom Celebrity Fashion Show:  A Saturday afternoon fashion show created a flurry of excitement in the Point of View department at Nordstrom in Montgomery Mall. Hundreds flocked there to get a glimpse of British Fashionista Finola Hughes. Hughes, the current host of Style Network's hit makeover show "How Do I Look," made an appearance in conjunction with editors from Vogue Magazine and signed copies of her book "Soap Suds." If the name Finola Hughes doesn't quite ring a bell, and you don't watch the Style Network, you may remember Hughes as secret agent Anna Devane on ABC's "General Hospital "and "All My Children." Hughes also plays recurring character Patti Halliwell on Aaron Spelling's "Charmed."
Following the fashion show, dozens of people stood in line for the opportunity to get their books signed. A tall, thin woman with strawberry blond hair remarked while waiting, "She's really thin and I'm three times her size." Hughes, wearing tiny jeans and a white pique blazer, is not only thin (perhaps a size zero?) but funny and exceptionally beautiful.
She told me about the most common fashion mistake that she believes women make: "If they feel heavy, wearing big clothing will only make them look dumpy. Women should wear something that brings in the silhouette." Hughes also said that the hot trends this year are Grecian, safari, bohemian circle skirts and tunics. So what if women are on a limited budget and can only add one item to their wardrobe? "I would say buy a skirt," she said.  (by Tracey Gold Bennett, Washington Examiner, April 3, 2005)

Finola's latest projects include hosting the Olympus Fashion Week 2004, interviewing the stars on the red carpet before the Golden Globes, and rating the fashions at the Oscars. She also chatted with other celebrity style persons at the British Film Awards, then helped some men reinvent themselves on the Montel Williams Show.

Trend Watcher: "I enjoy wearing Greenlee's really great clothes and getting to try on the latest styles. But fashion can be intimidating. This show just gives great ideas and tips. I'm definately learning stuff from it!" Learning enough to give her friend, style guru Finola Hughes, a run for her money? "I don't think I can ever give Finola a run for her money," Budig sighs. "Finola rules the world of fashion. I will always go to her for style advice." (excerpt from SOD, 4/27/04)

Wearing a fabulous black dress, Finola dished with her fellow fashion experts on the stars Oscar fashions. Here's some nice pics of Finola. Unfortunately I couldn't get a good video capture of the bottom part of her dress.

L!CENSING 2004 International event held at Jacob K. Javits Center in New York:  Finola Hughes from Style network's "How Do I Look" was the star power emcee with an informative fashion chat on how cool youngsters of all ages will fill their closets with trendy clothes and accessories this year.  With her clipped British accent, Hughes explained the continuation of thevintage look, the lifespan of the urban mood (still kicking!) and the still pervasive utilitarian theme (aka cargo dressing). Hoodies, now a staple, are predicted to be the "IT" item for Fall 2004. Again?  (Excerpt from Latest in Fashion News, 6/10/04)

In Fashion Finola Hughes doesn't just ask the hard question on her new show How Do I Look?, premiering on Style Network on Jan. 16 (9 pm/ET). She helps create the solution. "It's what you've asked your family and friends, and they've answered, 'Not so hot.' We give them the challenge to make you over."
Bring on the fashion intervention, where makeover candidates have to part with some of their most cherished pieces, willingly or not. "They wear the same item of clothing over and over, so it has sentimental value, and they get upset that it's getting thrown out," Hughes explains. The candidate then gets three distinct styles created by a friend, a family member and a professional stylist, and has to match their favorite look with its creator. "There's one episode where the victim- as we like to call them- was having a really hard time with the stylist's critique of his wardrobe. In the end, the victim picked the stylist's collection, thinking it was one of his friends, so there was a bit of irony."
Hughes knows a thing or two about fashion blunders. "Recently, I wore a silver jacket. I don't know what I was thinking," she declares. "It was on a rack during Fashion Week. I said, 'I have to wear it,' and it was just wrong. I can still make a full-on mistake."
Hughes will be seeking out fashion do's on the Golden Globes' red carpet for Style Network on Jan. 25 (6 pm/ET). "I'll be looking for actors and actresses who are wearing fashion that is on the cutting edge, and for people who are experimenting with young designers," she promises. (TVGuide.Com 1/16/04)
