Alex Flips Out at the Crystal Ball Alex the doctor becomes Alex the patient this week on All My Children when she begins to crack under the pressure of the holidays and also having to work so closely with David as co-director of the Andrassy Foundation.
People are beginning to notice her reaction to David's continual presence in her life is getting a little out of hand. Rae immediately notices something is wrong with Alex and goes to check on her; she finds Alex having a panic attack and tries to talk to her. Though reticent at first, Alex begins to open up to Rae and listen to her suggestion that David might be triggering a memory- that in fact it might not be David who is the cause of her distress at all.
David also doesn't understand why Alex can't get past her negative feelings toward him and let bygones be bygones. He continues to question her about it, which only makes matters worse. He goes to Edmund and tells him he's worried about Alex's mental state. Edmund asks David to stay clear of Alex, especially during the Crystal Ball festivities. David ignores Edmund's request, and he and Alex have an encounter the two will not soon forget. (SOW 1/4/2000)

February Sweeps Preview Edmund and Rae help Alex try to uncover her link to a man from her past as everyone wonders: 'Who is Geoffrey?' David and Erica, in the meantime, use unscrupulous research of their own to discover Alex's role in Geoffrey's mysterious disappearance. (SID 1/25/2000)

Alex is Haunted by Her Past Alex's past is coming back to haunt her and she's making an enemy in the process!
After Alex pushes David down a staircase, he covers for her, saying that he fell. Alex can't imagine why he'd protect her- and neither can Erica, who is all set to call the police. David asks Alex why she pushed him. She confesses that she thought David was someone else, someone named Geoffrey. Later, she tells Edmund about calling David Geoffrey, who she thinks is someone from her past.
At the same time, Erica's not convinced by David that he'll handle Alex. In fact, she's getting annoyed that he won't let her help him. Naturally, Erica takes matters into her own hands and tries to dig up information on Alex. Meanwhile, Alex is having difficulty coming to terms with things from her past that keep cropping up when she least expects it!? (SOU 1/18/2000)

Secrets and Lies Threaten Many Lives Rae and Edmund continue to try to help Alex remember her past. Meanwhile, Erica and David team up to uncover her secret. It will be a race to see who discovers the truth first. (SOW 2/1/2000)

AMC's Dimitri Playing Hard-to-Get? Rumors persist that AMC is in talks with Michael Nader to reprise the role of Dimitri. The latest is that the actor, who was ousted last summer, is playing hard-to-get. A spokesperson for Nader says it's not happening... so far. "Honestly, he's not in talks yet," insists the rep. "They have not come in with an offer. When they're ready to take him back, they're going to call us up, make an offer and we'll negotiate it.' When will that be? 'If he did return, I think he would come back in March," speculates the spokesperson. (SOD's Rumor Box, 2/1/2000)

What is Alex's Secret? Edmund takes on his sister-in-laws's strange case. As Mateo and Hayley look to the future this week, Alex Devane Marick explores her past. After revealing to Edmund that she recently was reminded of a traumatic childhood encounter with the enigmatic Geoffrey, Alex surmises that her trapped secrets want to come out. Edmund then offers to help her get at the trutjh. The mystery only deepens, though, when Alex finds the business card of the doctor who treated her in Wales for her breakdown- a man she had blocked out of her memory completely. Urged by Edmund to follow this lead, Alex is rattled when she calls the hospital, only to have them claim that doctor never worked there! (SID 2/8/2000)

The Women of 2000- Finola Hughes "While watching Finola Hughes play Alex, one can quickly see why she's an Emmy Award-winning actress. This talented lady doesn't need to say a word and you still know what her character is thinking. A special look, her body language, her actions, say it all. Although secrets from Alex's past have still not been revealed, Hughes is slowly leading the audience to the big payoff. Talent and beauty are a powerful combo... and Hughes has both. General Hospital audiences took her to their hearts. Now, All My Children fans are the lucky ones, but for how long? It's possible that Alex is the presumed-dead Anna Devane, and does that mean Hughes will be crossing over to GH?" (SOU 2/15/2000)

Comings & Goings- Nader's Triumphant Return: After nearly nine months of campaigning, die-hard Michael Nader fans have gotten their wish. It's official: Nader returns as All My Children's brooding count Dimitri Marick in May.  When the popular actor was let go from AMC last June, an industry insider told Digest that he had "made no secret of his
unhappiness" with the show. However, his rep insisted that no bad blood existed between Nader and AMC execs and described the departure as "a mutual thing. [B]oth decided that it's time to cut the cord." His fans made no secret of their malcontent, inundating ABC with letters, e-mails and even donning black armbands at the network's Super Soap Weekend in Disney World. Rumors quickly surfaced that the show had approached Nader about reprising the role he originated in 1991, and earlier this month, his spokesperson would offer Digest only that "if he did return, I think he would come back in March." AMC execs beat that deadline by six days, officially confirming Nader's return on February 23.
Back in Pine Valley, Dimitri's grieving widow Alexandra (Finola Hughes) has been creeping closer to brother-in-law Edmund (John Callahan). When Marick rematerializes (he was presumed drowned in September after wandering into the sea), demurs an ABC spokesperson, it is "sure to shock everyone" in town. (SOD Online 2/22/2000)

Michael Nader Returns To "ALL MY CHILDREN" Fan favorite Michael Nader makes his return to ABC Daytime's "All My Children" beginning in May 2000. Mr. Nader will reprise the role of the striking, enigmatic and affluent Dimitri Marick, which he originated in 1991 and continued to play until 1999. When Dimitri mysteriously vanished in July of 1999, he was presumed dead by all who loved him. Now that his friends and loved ones are beginning to come to terms with their loss, his reappearance in Pine Valley is sure to shock everyone, especially his grieving widow, Alex (Finola Hughes), and his brother, Edmund (John Callahan). (2/23/00)

Coming Attraction: "AMC's" Finola Hughes is "so excited" by the return of Michael Nader as Dimitri. "Michael is so funny," says Hughes, who play's Dimitri's "widow," Alex. "He's a wild man and I work well with that." Will Dimitri's return jump-start the romance between Alex and Dimitri's brother, Edmund? "Totally," Hughes says. "The possibilities are outrageous." (Carolyn Hinsey, NY Daily Online, 2/25/2000)

stripesdimitri.jpg (5724 bytes)Rumor Box "At press time, Michael Nader was deep in negotiations with AMC to reprise the role of Dimitri Marick for May sweeps. This is welcome news for the tenacious Nader fans who have been campaigning furiously for the actor's return ever since the count presumably walked into the sea to his 'death' last September. In a 10/5/99 Digest interview, Nader quipped, 'If he's not dead, he's a damn strong swimmer.' (It's looking now like Dimitri had his water wings.) An ABC spokesperson declined to comment." (SOD 2/29/2000)

The Buzzzz- Is Michael Nader Returning to AMC? "Soap Opera Weekly has learned that the door at AMC is still open for Michael Nader's (Dimitri) possible return. While ABC does not comment on actors' contracts, a spokesperson for the actor says he had nothing to comment on at this time. A few months ago, he said Nader had not been approached." (SOW 2/29/2000)

Alex Faces a New Threat from a Stranger who comes into her Life Alex is uneasy about new stablehand Guy... and with good reason. When she arrives to see him, he's busy working on his computer, but quickly shuts it down when he sees her. Alex explains that she's there to talk about training for the new horse Scorpio.
A conversation begins, and Alex is suddenly caught off-guard when Guy pronounces an English word correctly- not something just anyone would do. When she questions him about it, he avoids giving her a direct answer and it makes her nervous. After letting her wonder for a while, he eventually tells her that he spent time in England and Australia.
Later, Edmund arrives and sees that Alex and Guy are working closely together. Just as Edmund and Alex are leaving, Guy starts whistling a song that stops Alex in her tracks. Alex is shaken, but Guy has another excuse for what's going on. After Alex and Edmund leave, Guy goes back to his computer and reports the day's incidents to some unknown person or place, suggesting to whomever he's sending the messages to that things are getting too close for comfort.
The next day, Edmund and Alex are introduced to a Russian friend of Eugenia's named Irina. Eugenia and Irina are going to go riding, but before they can leave the stable, Irina gets chest pains. In her panic, she starts speaking Russian, but no one can understand her- no one except Alex! Everyone is stunned, including Alex. Alex professes to having no knowledge of that fact that she could either speak or understand Russian. Guy overhears everything. When Edmund spots him, he aks him to leave. With the latest incident involving Alex's ability to do things that she doesn't know she can do, Edmund tries to convince Alex that she must go ahead and find out about her past. She insists that she just wants to get on with her life, but she sees the wisdom in Edmund's suggestion and agrees.
Edmund knows who can help them: Adrian. Adrian gets to work, and true to his word, he comes up with some results. Adrian passes the information he's gotten to Edmund. Edmund is surprised at Adrian's theory of what's happened to Alex. Edmund tells a stunned Alex what Adrian found out and what he thinks happened to her. Edmund proceeds to explain to Alex that in order to put the pieces of her past together, they need to get their hands on Alex's medical records. He suggests they get Jack to start legal proceedings to get the records. Alex agrees. After another run-in with Alex, Guy sends a report requesting that drastic action be taken against her. (SOW 3/28/2000)

Alex Wants to Uncover Her Secrets on AMC Alex says Nyet to Edmund when he tells her she's been speaking Russian, this week on AMC. That heretofore unknown linguistic skill comes on the heels of her doing martial arts at the mall. Edmund is quite understandably confused. 'It's sort of strange, kind of funny that someone tells you you've done something that you don't remember doing. It leads one to believe that she's a little more unhinged than we speculated,' Finola Hughes (Alex) explains.
Unhinged or not, Alex is terrified to learn more about her past. 'She may be responsible for the death of someone. Can you imagine looking into your past and not remembering certain areas of it?' Hughes asks.
Edmund goes to Adrian, who suggests that Alex may have been brainwashed. That may be a relief of sorts. 'I don't think that it's actual neurological damage. I think she may have been manipulated, and that is quite frightenting to her.' Alex decides to face her fears when she gives Edmund, Jack and Adrian the go-ahead to start digging into her past. (SOW 3/28/2000)

Is Alex Anna? This week, Alex comes closer to learning the truth about her past, even as danger looms.
Early in the week, Edmund halts Guy's questioning of Alex. She accuses Edmund of being jealous, but he claims that he is merely wary of Guy's agenda. As well he should be! That night, Alex wakes up screaming after a prophetic dream in which Guy prepares to shoot Edmund. (Unbeknowst to them, Guy in private is loading a gun!)
A new clue to Alex's past surfaces when a patient hugs Alex the next day and says, 'I love you.' While embracing the girl, Alex recalls telling a different little girl, 'I love you, too, Robin!'
Later, Edmund and Alex jet off to Wales in search of the truth- and next week, their investigation turns up a shocking name!  (SID 4/11/2000)

Back to the Future... One of the most popular heroines of all time in the history of GH is Anna Devane. Fans loved her accent, her classiness, and her adventures. They followed her romantic love stories and her heartaches... of which there were plenty.
She and Robert Scorpio were one of GH's most beloved supercouples. They met when they were spies for the WSB, fell in love and got married. When Scorpio found out that his bride was a double agent, they broke up. Unbeknownst to Robert, Anna was pregnant with his daughter Robin. When Anna came back in Robert's life, he was married to Holly. Later, Anna fell in love with Duke. Sadly, he was killed, and Holly was believed dead, too, paving the way for Anna and Scorpio's remarriage in 1991.
Tragically, Anna and Robert died in a boat explosion caused by Faison, a recent victim of a similar fate. When Faison held Felicia captive, he compared her to Anna, bringing up all the memories once again. And making some people wonder if she wasn't really killed, just like Lucky.
But if she's alive, where can she be? On ABC's sister show AMC, Finola Hughes, who played Anna, is now a character who doesn't remember her past. And one more thing- Alex's last name just happens to be Devane. Wouldn't all of this make for an interesting crossover? (SOU 4/11/2000)

Alex is a Killer Ever since the talented Finola Hughes landed in Pine Valley, she's been an utter fascination. Alex's mysterious past has been one of the many highlights on AMC. Now with the latest reveals regarding her history, fans are getting more and more excited as to where this storyline is headed. The news that Alex spent time in a mental institution and killed a man named Geoffrey hasn't yet answered what fans desperately want to know. And that is: Is Alex GH's Anna Devane? (SOU 4/11/2000)

Spring Preview Edmund and Alex get closer to her past, and ultimately get to the root of her problem.' Michael Nader will reprise the role of the presumed-dead count later this spring. 'Remember, we never found the body. I mean, some big secret, right? (SOD 4/11/2000)

Anna vs. Alex "All My Children's Dr. Alexandra Devane Marick certainly looks familiar. Oh, come one, she just has to be Anna Devane... doesn't she? Our arguement:
After Cesar Faison kidnapped General Hospital's Anna in 1992, word came back that Faison, Anna and her husband, Robert, had perished in a boat explosion. But Faison turned up alive in Port Charles in 1999 before (supposedly) going down in another boat explosion.
Anna and Alex are dead ringers for one another, are both Brits and share the same maiden name.
Alex has a friend named Sean Donely. So does Anna. Remember Sean Donely?
Alex has no recall of what happened for a period of several years.
The neurologist recently flattened a gunman with some Emma Peel moves that you just don't pick up in med school. She can't remember where she learned kung-fu fighting. Ditto for the death grip she used on David.
Alex named Edmund's new horse Scorpio! Did we mention that Anna's husband's name was Robert Scorpio?
This week, Alex mistakenly calls a young girl Robin (the name of the Scorpios' daughter) and recalls a child who she suspects may be hers.
'Alex's recollections confuse her about who she is... she might be Anna,' teases AMC executive Producer Jean Dadario Burke. But... 'There will be an interesting twist.'" [click here to read my take on Alex versus Anna] (SOD 4/11/2000)

Will AMC's Edmund & Alex Make Love? AMC's Maria went down in a 1997 plane crash, John Callahan said in a Digest interview that his grieving character, Edmund, should remain celebate for at least six months. Three years later, we have to ask: How long is too long?
'He is one horny bastard,' laughs Callahan. 'He's in such a bad way. That's enough, man.' What's taking so long? 'It's the fans who are interested more in Edmund being celibate, I'm afraid,' muses the actor, acknowledging that the popularity of his pairing with real-life wife Eva LaRue Callahan (ex-Maria) made it hard for Edmund to move on. 'It's a tribute to three things: The relationship [Edmund and Maria] had, the job that Eva did flat-out and [the fans'] belief that she could be coming back at a moment's notice. That adds to their resistance to Edmund being with anyone else.'
Fans will have to move on, though because by the end of this week, Edmund finds himself alone with Alex in Wales- and things turn very cozy. (SOD 4/18/2000)

Murder and Danger Come to Pine Valley! Alex and Edmund face danger as facts from her past keep popping up to lead her to her true identity. Things heat up and they make love. As they get closer, Guy is lurking nearby watching them. Alex and Edmund take off to get her medical records, but do they ever get there or is danger too close? (SOU 4/25/2000)

AMC's Dimitri Tries to Save Alex Through weak and bedridden, Dimitri manges to rally this week on AMC. Under the care of the nefarious Dr. Griffith in Wales (coincidentally not far from Alex's childhood home), Dimitri realizes he's been made a pawn in a carefully wrought plot to destroy his wife, Alex.
The catatonic state, however, is a well-crafted act on the part of the count, who is very concerned about his wife's fate. Now that he's heard there is a scheme to murder Alex, he's determined to save her, and if that means enduring grueling medical tests to convince Griffith he's not a threat, he'll suffer. Dimitri manages to steal Dr. Griffith's keys, which may eventually secure his freedom. What Dimitri doesn't know is that while Alex and, by association, Edmund are in danger, the couple has also fallen in love, which will have far-reaching consequences for Dimitri.
Time may be running out for all three, however. Guy, who's been spying on Alex and Edmund in Pine Valley and Wales, has come up with a plan to kill Alex and make it appear to be an accident. By the week's end, Dimitri tries his best to get a message to his brother before both men lose the woman they love. (SOW 5/16/2000)

Hello Again: "'I've signed a two-year contract,' Michael Nader says of his deal to resume the role of Dimitri Marick, who left last year despite frantic lobbying by fans. 'I don't want to be anywhere I'm not wanted, and I just don't want to stay in daytime the rest of my life. It's a great medium, but I'd like to move on.'"
Which is exactly what he tried to do when he exited Pine Valley in August. 'A friend of mine had an independent film in development, so I'm producing and acting in that.' Nader is thrilled to make a grand re-entrance just when his on-screen brother, Edmund, has fallen in love with Dimitri's 'widow', Alex. But, he teases, Dimitri has secrets of his own. 'There's intrigue galore. There are big surprises. A new woman that we don't know yet will be coming in, and she's diabolical.
I'm happy to be back, and looking to mix it up. Dimitri's always been a great rebounder and full of surprises, so let's rock'n'roll. Remember, I know where Dimitri's been, and I know where he's going.'" (SOW 5/30/2000)

Hot Summer Preview! Alex and Edmund grow much closer, unaware that an alive Dimitri is being held captive. Count on the arrival of Alex's mother, the revelation of Guy's link to Dr. Devane, and the identity of the mastermind behind Alex's plight to provide critical pieces to this puzzler! (SID 5/30/2000)

Will Edmund Find Dimitri? This week, Edmund and Alex face love and death, as feelings are revealed in the midst of danger! Edmund Admits it! Following Alex's near death at the hands of Guy, she and Edmund discover that the horse trainer's background is fake, and that the would-be assassin has fled to London. When Edmund decides to chase after Guy, Alex fears for his safety and offers to go along. But Edmund turns Alex down, saying, "I can't lose another woman that I love." Maria's widower then takes Alex in his arms and affirms his feelings once and for all!
Alex gets a surprise! After making love, Alex awakens to find a note from Edmund saying he has left for Wales to secure their future happiness by finding Guy and uncovering the secrets to her past. Alone, Alex later is stunned when Guy appears at the lodge and announces, "We have some catching up to do, Anna."
Behind Door no. 1... Next week, Alex and Guy's showdown comes to a reality-twisting climax, while Edmund infilitrates the ominous Bryn Wydd facility, wholly unaware that a presumed dead Dimitri is being held captive within its wall! (SID 5/30/2000)

Dimitri Pleads for Alex and Edmund's Lives! Alex tries to fight off Guy, but he's determined to kill her. While they struggle, the gun goes off and Guy is killed! Meanwhile, Edmund arrives at Brynn Wydd and is about to walk into a room where Dimitri lies drugged, when he's stopped by Dr. Griffith. Later, when Edmund is distracted by the supervisor, a guard sticks him with a hypodermic needle and he's knocked out. When Dimitri awakens, he sees his unconscious brother next to him. Dimitri is moved from the room and hears that the supervisor is going to kill Edmund! Dimitri sees a woman who looks familiar to him, but he doesn't know who she is. Dr. Griffith explains that she's the boss. Dimitri pleads for his brother's life and Alex's. The woman assures him that Alex is safe.
Meanwhile, Alex breaks into Brynn Wydd and finds Edmund. Alex and Edmund make their escape as the building explodes! They head to her mother's cottage. When they arrive, Alex and her mother, Charlotte, are reunited, but where's Dimitri? (SOU 6/6/2000)

A Family Affair Begins on AMC "Charlotte tells Dimitri that Edmund and Alex are in love, this week on AMC, and though he doesn't believe a word that comes from his captor's mouth, does this signal a beginning of a love triangle? You can Count on it!
Charlotte presses her prisoner to explain how he infiltrated her organization. Now fully awake and aware, Dimitri learns from Charlotte that Alex is alive, but that she is now in love with his brother. 'I don't think that soaps can offer much more than the occassional triangle,' Michael Nader (Dimitri) jokes. 'There's such a history between Alex and myself, Edmund and her, Edmund and I. Edmund and Dimitri have been through hell and high water, so there is going to be a lot of soul-searching.'
Dimitri lunges at Charlotte after she suggests that Edmund ended up with Alex as payback for Dimitri's tryst with Edmund's late wife, Maria. Dimitri has enough insight to know what viewers do: that any love affair between Alex and Edmund was unintentional.
Though no one knows that better than Edmund's portrayer, John Callahan, he believes the love between Edmund and Alex has more to do with Maria than is spoken of. When Dimitri walked into the ocean last August, the hardship that Edmund faced was palpable. It seemed that between his wife and his brother, he had lost everything that mattered to him- that is, until he met his brother's wife. In fact, Callahan believes the writers did not put him in a romance because of fan reaction when on-and-off screen wife Eva LaRue (ex-Maria) left the show. 'It's a double-edged sword,' Callahan muses. 'It was a tribute to Eva, and we're grateful to that every day, but at the same time, it's almost a set of handcuffs. In normal life, Edmund would take a long, long time before he would be able to let a woman into his life. So I think that timewise, it's just about right.'
Enter Alex. The attraction betweeen the 'widow' and her brother-in-law was enough to get even hard-core Maria fans to relent and allow Edmund to try to love again. 'It's very confusing,' Finola Hughes (Alex) says. 'It think Dimitri was the big love of Alex's life, as Maria was for Edmund. I don't know how they will play the triangle out, but I think and hope and pray they do it really adult. It should be a very adult decision that each person makes who they ultimately will end up with. Nobody wants to be hurt, so it might be an interesting storyline if they keep it within those boundaries.'
'Unfortunately, it doesn't normally take much for a man to sleep with another woman,' Callahan adds. 'But it took Edmund close to three years.' Then, with a chuckle and a wink: 'And I don't know how much sleeping they did.'
In the meantime, Alex still doesn't know that Dimitri is alive. 'I don't know how she'll react,' Hughes says. 'I think she will probably think that she's really lost her mind.'
Still, Dimitri refuses to believe his brother and 'widow' are in love. Later, however, he wises up and sees his opportunity to regain his freedom. He tells Charlotte that he will do whatever it takes to be emanicapated from imprisonment, including turn on Alex!" (SOW 6/13/2000)

Is AMC's Alex GH's Anna Alex comes closer to learning the truth about the years she can't remember- not to mention more clues as to her relationship to Anna- this week on AMC. Will her findings about her apparent doppelganger lead to more questions than answers? Charlotte confuses Dimitri by playing a tape of Anna Devane for him, forcing him to ponder the possibility that his wife may have been a woman he hardly knew. 'I've only known her as Alex,' Michael Nader (Dimitri) says in character. 'This is going to be the shock of my life.'
Charlotte instructs one of her henchmen to get rid of Dimitri. But the count fights back and is able to free himself as Charlotte prepares to dispose of him. Now emancipated, Dimitri struggles with the pilot of the plane, which suddenly starts to spin out of control.
Meanwhile, Alex is shocked to realize that pertinent details from Anna Devane's life are part of the memories she has recovered. Finola Hughes, who portrays Alex- as she did Anna on GH- is excited at the prospect of leaping back into some familiar skin. 'What would be exciting,' she muses, 'is that Anna would be different now. A lot has happened to her, if she really is alive. I can't imagine the type of life she's led over the past seven or eight years.'
Alex agrees to let Adrian take her fingerprints and compare them to Anna's. Later, Adrian stuns Alex with the news that her fingerprints match Anna Devane's exactly, leaving Alex and Edmund to wonder if it's true that Alex is not a real person, but a fabricated myth. (SOW 6/20/2000)

Dimitri Escapes! The count flees his captors, flirts (again) with death, and finds his way back to Wildwind this week on AMC. But is he prepared for the painful truth that awaits him in Pine Valley?
After realizing Dimitri knows less about her operation than she suspected, Charlotte sends him on a plane ride to Pine Valley. One catch: She plans for him to be pushed out mid-flight!
Meanwhile, in Pine Valley, Adrian has shocking news for Alex: Her fingerprints match those of the late Anna Devane! Back in the sky, Dimitri extricates himself from his ropes and accosts the pilot, sending the plane into a free fall.
The next morning, as Alex ponders the possibility that she is Anna, Edmund wonders whether his half brother had caught onto the Alex/Anna mystery prior to his death. Little does Edmund know that he could direct his inquiry to Dimitri himself, who has washed up on the P.V. beach, unconscious! Next week, an outraged Erica blasts Alex over her romance with Edmund while a desperate Dimitri goes hunting for his wife at the lodge. Yet once the Count locates Alex and Edmund, he may be wishing that he hadn't! (SID 6/27/2000)

Dimitri Learns about Alex and Edmund's Romance It's one bride for two brothers this week on AMC as Dimitri learns the rumors are true: His brother and his wife are embroiled in romance.
Alex and Edmund declare their love for each other and agree that it's time to let their friends in on their happiness with them. But will they? 'Alex is Edmund's brother's wife,' John Callahan (Edmund) points out. 'There's going to be some objection to that, to say the least, without Dimitri coming back!'
Meanwhile, Dimitri, who has washed up on the same shore from which he walked into the sea last August, awakens and vows to find his wife. But first, he happens upon a church and thanks God for bringing him back to Alex. While meditating on this, he hears other people enter the church. Always a big proponent of the element of surprise, he hides.
As luck would have it, it is Alex and Edmund who have arrived at the church. Once inside, they profess their love once again, this time in front of God. Dimitri is too overcome with despair to reveal himself, and remains unseen.
'Edmund is [going to be] shocked and happy beyond belief that Dimitri's alive,' Callahan continues. 'I would imagine that Edmund would not step in the way of his brother getting back with his wife. One would think that Edmund would just immediately step aside- I certainly hope he does! It would be tough, but would I trade finding a new love for having my brother back? Yes, but in soaps, it's not so cut-and-dried. You could postulate: What if Alex was torn? What if Edmund said, 'You have to go back to Dimitri,' and Dimitri found out about us and said, 'I don't want you, either.' Now what happens to her? Nobody did anything wrong here; that's the interesting part.'
The happy couple goes to visit Dimitri's grave to ask him for his blessing. But they get more than they bargain for when they turn to find the answer to their prayer staring them in the face. (SOW 6/27/2000)

Two Princes Kneel Before AMC's Alex Royal complications surround the fair Alex this week on AMC, as princely brothers Edmund and Dimitri each plan to her his queen.
Edmund, the consummate party planner- think Crystal Ball- orchestrates the definitive marriage proposal to Alex. It's part fairy tale, part dream- and completely romantic. Though she's a little taken aback, what with her soon-to-be family in the background dressed as the cast of A Midsummer Night's Dream, she agrees to live happily ever after with him. What the newly engaged couple doesn't know is that not only is Dimitri alive but he's on the mend and ready to reveal himself to his wife and brother.
Dimitri stops himself when he learns that Alex and Edmund are engaged. He once again chooses the noble road, and suffers in silence from the sidelines. In fact, after heading to the church, he decides to get out of Edmund and Alex's life for good. But the best laid plans...
Edmund and Alex revel in thoughts of their future until Alex finds disturbing evidence at Wildwind. Then she has a bizarre sighting at the Pine Valley airport. It may be a matter of minutes before Dimitri's existence is no longer a secret.
Finola Hughes (Alex) can't wait. "I love him (Michael Nader)," she effuses. "I've been watching him, and I just think he's so tender and vulnerable and just wonderful. I'm very much looking forward to working with him soon. That's going to be interesting. I've had a lot of thoughts about when I (Alex) first see him, too. It's an interesting spin." (SOW 8/22/2000)

Charlotte Wants to Destroy Alex on AMC "Maternal Love takes on a whole new meaning this week on AMC since Charlotte, who's failed at ridding her world of Dimitri and Edmund, sets out to destroy her own daughter, Alex. Edmund's and Dimitri's continued interference with her master plan is causing a great deal of frustration for Charlotte. 'She wants to get rid of him (Dimitri),' Samantha Eggar (Charlotte) explains. 'But it doesn't happen with these two, because they outwit her- first Dimitri, then Edmund. They are aggravating to her because she's all business. She has her plan. She has all her associates all over the world, her operatives are working.'
Expect Charlotte to become even more frustrated now that her two adversaries are working together. After sharing a touch brotherly reunion, Dimitri and Edmund that Charlotte isn't who she claims to be, and that they must 'take care' of her. But while Dimitri urges Edmund not to allow Alex to be left alone with her mother, Charlotte manages to allay Alex's suspicions about their relationship and convince her to take a trip together.
Edmund talks Alex out of going away with Charlotte, this time, which keeps Alex out of harm's way for now. Her physical safety isn't Edmund's only concern: Dimitri has asked his brother not to tell his 'widow' that he's alive, and that promise will prove very hard for the always-honest Edmund to keep." Alex Learns the Truth "AMC's very own million-dollar question- is Alexandra Devane really Anna Devane?- is answered this week. Charlotte tells Alex the whole story.
As the week begins, Edmund notices Alex's strange behavior and frantically attempts to warn her about her feelings about her devious mother, going so far as to reveal the truth about Charlotte. Alex staunchly defends her mother, and Edmund is stunned when Alex leaves with her. Suspecting that Alex has been drugged, Edmund enlists Adrian's help. Unbeknownst to Edmund, Adrian, with Dimitri, is trying to gain Charlotte's trust, and he double-crosses Edmund. Charlotte orders Adrian to shoot Edmund, and Alex runs to protect the man she loves.
Believing Edmund is dead, Alex takes Adrian's advice and puts her trust in Charlotte. The very emotional Alex asks Charlotte if she ever loved her father, the never-seen Mr. Devane. Though nothing was specifically scripted, Samantha Eggar explains the backstory she and Finola Hughes (Alex) have created: 'The father is painted as a deeply caring man. So when we were working in the dressing room, we said, "Well, all we have to go on is what you've said about him. He took care of you, because I was working every day, all day and gone." He was obviously a stay-at-home dad, and in the '70s that would have been pretty unusual unless one was a hippie- and he wasn't.' Charlotte goes on to tell Alex exactly what her connection is to Anna Devane.
However, as Eggar adds, that reveal may not be true. 'She's been lying pretty well for 30 years, so who knows if this isn't a lie, too? We'll see." (SOW 7/11/2000)

Is Revenge on Edmund's Mind: "Edmund's world is falling apart before his very eyes. He's lost Alex to Dimitri and his mind is beginning to play tricks on him. His worst nightmares seem to be coming true. In his mind, he sees and hears Alf, the horrible man that he once thought was his father. Alf tells him that he's a loser and that Dimitri is taking everything from him once again. Alf's message for Edmund to fight for what he wants in this world and not let Dimitri come out a winner again, causes Edmund to take some drastic steps, which he might later regret.
Though all his troubles, there has been one person who has always been able to get through to him: Brooke. Can she help him this time, before things get completely out of control? Brooke herself is having major life problems and she's confiding in Edmund about her hatred for Eliot/Josh. Will their feelings for each other once again bring them together as a couple, instead of just friends?" (SOU 10/24/2000)

AMC's Edmund Wants to Kill Dimitri: "It's bad enough that AMC's Edmund has to spend his waking hours being in close proximity to the deliriously being happy and very-much-reunited Dimitri and Alex, but he's also being haunted by visions of Alf, his long-deceased stepfather who is encouraging his son to confront Dimitri.
This week, Edmund begins to listen to his father, and to act out in a most violent and irrational way. 'It's probably a culmination of his life events, but the Alex thing triggers it, because there's been so much loss,' executive producer Jean Dadario Burke explains. 'It all goes back to his beginnings, his roots. It makes him think: What have I done? Why is this happening to me? Why am I loving and losing so much? That's when his father appears to him.'
Edmund may not be just struggling with himself- he's also going to be doing some more battling with Dimitri as well as the memories of his troubled past." (SOW 10/24/2000)

Will Edmund Kill Dimitri? "This week, a ghost from Edmund's past threatens to make a phantom of Dimitri. Will Alex realize what's going on before it's too late for both of the men she loves?
I'm Baaack! It's understandable that Edmund has a bone to pick with Dimitri. After all, Edmund was forced to watch idly as Alex, with whom he had fallen in love, returned to the arms of his half brother, her resurrected husband.
Lately, though, Edmund is having an increasingly difficult time controlling his rage. This week, the situation grows more dire, as the abusive man whom he once called 'father'- Wildwind caretaker Alf Gresham- returns to whip his 'son' into a violent fury!
Heading for a Wedding- Hearing the voice of the deceased Alf, Edmund relives the verbal abuse he experienced as a child. Noticing that Edmund is beginning to act a little weird, Dimitri and Alex nonetheless proceed with plans to renew their wedding vows at Vadzel, the Maricks' Budapest estate. Dimitri is caught off guard, though, when Edmund makes an announcement of his own: He's selling Wildwind!
Will Alex and Dimitri leave town? A heated arguement ensues, as Dimitri refuses to let Edmund relinquish their home. Distraught to see the tension between the brothers, Alex suggests to her husband an alternate plan that would take them away from Pine Valley forever!
Murder, he planned- Alas, the Maricks had better act quickly, as Edmund begins to entertain Alf's suggestions that he should 'get rid of Dimitri!' With such prompting, Edmund starts contemplating ways to kill his brother. Next week, loved ones begin to worry further about Edmund's state of mind... but is their concern too late?" Pine Valley Secrets Revealed: Edmund, Alex & Dimitri- Alf pushes Edmund to extremes which endanger Dimitri. No word yet on how AMC will handle the imminent maternity leave of Finola Hughes (Alex). (SID 10/31/2000)

AMC's Dimitri Tells Edmund to Stay Away from Alex: "If things keep going the way they are, AMC's Edmund won't have a ghost of a chance of holding onto his sanity. He has to live next door to his former fiancee Alex and her husband Dimitri (his brother), and he has to watch his children crawl all over their precious uncle Dimi. It's enough to make a man... see things.
Yep- Edmund is still being terrorized by the ghost of his rotten stepfather, Alf. And this week, Alex's efforts to help her loopy former lover will cause Dimitri to question her loyalty to him
Because of Edmund's demand that Alex keep quiet about his violent visions of Alf, Alex has not been truthful with Dimitri about his brother's slow descent into madness. After yet another argument this week, though, she convinces Edmund to tell Dimitri about Alf. When Edmund does come clean, Dimitri is sympathetic- to a point. But privately, he is very worried about is wife's safety, and he orders her to stay away from his brother.
Meanwhile, Alex also has problems with David when she becomes suspicious about his 'research' with the experimental drug, libidnizone. So if Alex disappears (hint: don't miss Friday's episode), Edmund won't be the only suspect. Put David at the top of the list. FYI: Finola Hughes, who plays Alex, began her maternity leave Oct. 23." (SOW 11/21/2000)

Is Alex in Danger? "This week, Marick family ties are pushed to the limit when Edmund's mental breakdown leads Dimitri to worry that Alex- his wife and Edmund's ex-lover- may be at risk!
Is Alex cheating? After Dimitri overhears a misleading conversation between his better half and brother (whom Alex secretly has been consoling over his battles with Alf), the count accuses his missus of carrying on an affair. Quick to correct her husband's suspicion, Alex reveals that Edmund has been "seeing" Alf, and is in need of help. Taken aback by his brother's crumbling psyche, Dimitri takes Edmund in his arms for a compassionate hug.
Alas, the truce is cut short when Dimtri, in a bid to assure Edmund that they'll do whatever is necessary to quash his demons, makes the mistake of saying he will take care of his sibling's children, should Edmund need time away.
This suggestion agitates Edmund's paranoia. Wary that, in addition to his former lady love, Dimitri is out to steal his kids, Edmund lashes out. Afterwards, he appeals to Alex, asking how he ever can stop loving her.
Edmund goes Postal? Later, Dimitri shares with Alex his concern that Edmund's instability has made him a walking hazard of which to steer clear. Alex, though, refuses to stay away from Edmund in his time of need.
Meanwhile, Edmund himself continues to teeter on the edge. At the party Ryan has thrown on the Chandler yacht, he goes toe-to-toe with Dimitri, who he learns has booked him a room at Oakhaven Sanitarium!
Dimitri to the Rescue? Has Alex backed the wrong horse? Has Edmund's thirst for revenge really made his behavior that unpredictable? That question becomes more ominous at week's end... but the answer may arrive too late to save Alex!" (SID 11/28/2000)
