David Kisses Anna... And She
Doesn't Stop Him! Anna Gets Caught! Anna and Gabriel move out of Wildwind
without telling Edmund. Anna knows she has to begin a life of her own and she
also wants to be able to help her little brother.
After Gabriel showed an interest in medicine, David gave him some medical text books to read. Now that Gabriel is finished with them, Anna decides to return them to David, or is she using it as an excuse to see him again? Anna goes to his room, books in hand. When she arrives, David isn't there. Once a spy, always a spy, and Anna can't resist doing a little snooping. She breaks into David's room and checks it out. While she's looking through his belongings, she hears David returning and must hide. Unaware that Anna is there, David undresses. To his surprise, he catches her trying to sneak out. Standing naked, and clearly not embarrassed, David questions Anna as to what she's doing in his room. Anna tries to cover, but it doesn't look like she's going to be able to. David, however, takes matters into his own hands- literally- and kisses her! Anna doesn't pull away, but doesn't let things go further and leaves. Afterwards, Anna, who has regained a good deal of her memory, sees Chris Stamp and she just can't keep quiet. Anna tells him that she knows exactly who he is. Chris can't deny knowing Anna and tells her he could never forget Agent Devane. How well do they know each other? Will Anna blow the whistle on Christ and tell Erica exactly who he is? (SOU 9/25/01) AMC's Anna Back to GH? Back when there was a hit out on her, Anna promised daughter Robin that
they'd reunite once it was safe. Last month, the ex-spy announced that the danger's over,
so shouldn't she shuffle off to Paris to rejoin Robin or visit her old pals
in GH's Port Charles? Not so fast. Anna's sticking around All My Children for now, other GH characters could come onboard and Alex may be
back, too.Finola Hughes dropped her dual role in July when Alex went sleuthing in London with Dimitri. "They had a couple of ideas about what they wanted to do," explains the actress. *It ended up that they preferred Anna. With Michael [Nader, ex-Dimitri] exiting, they felt that it was a good way of having those two characters go off until they decide what to do." The Marick's departure was sparked by a cryptic phone call about a "Duke" and Ryan Lavery. Might we see Ian Buchanan, who played Anna's second husband, Duke Lavery, on GH? "I don't know, but I called him as soon as I read it. I said, Listen to this, and read it to him. And in his inimitable style, he said, Well, they haven't called me, and I'm going off to film [The Panic Room] with Jodie Foster." And what about Hughes going back to GH? Would she be interested? *Of course, I would be. I have another year left on my contract here, which is great. I'm thoroughly enjoying it now that I'm playing Anna. I can concentrate on trying to get my teeth into the role. And I'm just hoping for some action. I think if you've got a character like Anna, you've just got to use her to the best of her capacity, which is always action. I don't necessarily mean fighting and stuff, but she needs to be doing something. She needs to be using her mind. She can't do needlework. It's just not going to fly." (SOD 8/7/01) Anna and Robin
Reunited! Are Robert and Mac Next?: Later this month, two-time Emmy
winner Kimberly McCullough returns to daytime when GH's Robin reunites with her
mother, Anna, on AMC. Will the Scorpio men be the next to pay a
visit? The In Depth Story: For two months now, ever since Emmy winner Finola Hughes brought GH's presumed-dead lady spy to AMC's Pine Valley (where her twin, Alex, resides), fans have awaited a reunion between Anna and Robin. Come Wednesday, May 30, that wait will be over, when McCullough begins a four-episode AMC run. But if Anna has regained enough of her memory to allow Robin's visit, what's to keep GH's Mac Scorpio from being told of his sister-in-law's resurrection? John J. York (Mac), for one, anxiously awaits that reconnection. "If Mac saw Anna, he'd hug her and tackle her. He wouldn't believe she was alive," York suggests, eager to participate in any such AMC/GH crossover. "It's very exciting, and a great way to tie together the shows. I get goosebumps thinking about the possibilities." As for the weighty matter of Robert- who was in the same explosion that "killed" his wife- it goes without saying that the resilient Aussie likely survived as well. Yet, other than in fleeting flashbacks, Anna's love has been a no-show... thus far. Says a rep for Tristan Rogers (ex-Robert), who recently learned his former leading lady was playing Anna: "It's hard to say, but I don't think Tristan would say no [if asked to reprise his role]; I think he'd say yes." An insider suggests that, were it to occur, that big reunion also would happen on AMC, not GH. Death
Valley- Anna Devane- "There are so many people on her trail that it's
not even funny," says Finola Hughes (Anna/Alex). "Obviously, Alex's
pretend mother, Charlotte, wants her dead. And Faison wants her dead. I'm sure
anybody she's come up against in the past as a double agent, if they still care,
would want her dead." (SOW

Look Who's
Talking!- The mysterious
Gabriel finally breaks his silence this week on AMC. As the week begins, Ryan
busts Gabriel on the Fidelity when Gillian's missing cameo turns up. Gabriel-
who Ryan accuses of stealing the cameo- refuses to talk, so he's hauled off to
jail. "Gabriel really doesn't understand what is going on, and he doesn't
know anybody, so he just wants to keep to himself," asserts Eric Dearborn
(Gabriel). "He is afraid." Of what?
Anna holds the key. She dreams of The Quiet Man, and wonders what role he played in her past. Edmund tries to jog Anna's memory by showing her photos of Robin. Whe that doesn't work, and Anna loses all hope, Edmund kisses her. Alex sees this and runs to Dimitri. Another clue about Gabriel surfaces when Anna finds a ring among Robin's things. She shows it to Gabriel, who finally pipes up and claims the ring is his. "It was his mother's, and Anna says it was her father's," Dearborn reveals. "That is when we start to figure things out." Make a Shocking Discovery!- The sisters are in danger again! While searching
through an old trunk at Wildwind, Alex tries to hide a doll from Anna, but fails
to do so. A strange thing happens as the sisters have flashbacks and their
memories involve Anna's daughter Robin. Although they both see her in their
flashback, Anna's not worried, but Alex is. She wonders if she could still have
some effects left over from when Charlotte brainwashed her into thinking she was
Anna. While the ladies are busy trying to rediscover Anna's past, Dimitri has
been busy with the events of the present. He learns that a gunman has been sent
to Wildwind and is concerned that they could all be in danger, especially Anna.
Edmund then finds a safe place for Anna to hide.Meanwhile, Gabriel is lurking about Wildwind and hears a voice in his head telling him to find Anna Devane and, when he does, he'll know what to do. Gabriel finds Anna and Edmund and decides to come out in the open. However, he brings with him a deadly surprise. Alex arrives in time, and she and Edmund capture Gabriel, but he refuses to speak to any of them. What secret is he hiding? (SOU 5/22/01)
Why AMC Brought Back Anna-
When Finola Hughes debuted on AMC as Alex Devane in 1999, speculation was
rampant that she was really playing Anna Devane, the presumed-dead fan fave
Hughes portrayed on GH from 1985-91. Alex turned out to be... Alex. But when
Hughes returned from maternity leave in February, Alex came baci with a secret:
Her long-lost twin is alive. Was this the plan all along?
"We
thought about making her Anna [when Hughes started on AMC]," notes
Executive Producer Jean Dadario Burke. "We decided against it." But,
she adds, AMC brass changed their minds when the soap had to explain Alex's
absence during Hughes's maternity leave. "We had to write her off, and we
wanted to make it a mystery and interesting."
Resurrecting Anna fit the bill, though it was a potentially controversial move.
"The tricky thing," says Burke, "was keeping honest to Anna's
background and character and not undermining anything that had gone on while she
was on GH." Anna's re-emergence in Pine Valley, not Port Charles,
bothered some GH fans. "I really don't have time to add another soap to my
schedule," one griped. "I have been watching GH since the early 1980s
and am peeved that one of my favorite characters has been returned from the dead
to a different show." Burke can't say whether Anna will someday return to
GH. ("There are so many things involved with a crossover.") But she's
certain that upcoming hush-hush storyline will boost interest in the twins.
"There may be a little lull now, but there are a few surprises left!"
pledges the exec. (SOD 4/24/01)
Two Devanes In
One-
"Okay, who saw AMC's most surprising plot twist coming? Anna is alive! Last
year, speculation was rampant that Alex was Anna- but AMC squashed that by
revealing that Alex was Anna's twin. Well, after Finola Hughes came back from
her maternity leave, Edmund and Dimitri found not one beautiful Devane, but two!
Hey, looks like the Edmund/Alex/Dimitri love triangle may be resolved quite
nicely with another Devane available. That is, until Robert Scorpio comes to
town. Although Tristan Rogers' (ex-Scorpio, GH) camp stated no one has
approached him, don't be too surprised if Kimberly McCullough rejoins ABC as
Robin. Wouldn't it be great to have the character shuffling between AMC- a
pairing with Leo, perhaps?- and GH, stirring things up with Jason and the teen
crowd once again?" (SOU 4/10/01)
Will Anna's True
Identity Be Revealed? Undercover
Operation. It's getting increasingly harder for Anna as she tries to make
sense of her past. She continues to have flashbacks and sees the face of Robert
Scorpio, but she can't seem to place him. Anna doesn't know who he is and what
he has to do with her past. Although Anna's in the hospital under the guise of
being Alex, Jake is beginning to get suspicious. Joe does his best to keep Jake
away from "Alex," but it's getting more difficult. Joe thinks it's
going to be hard to keep Anna in the hospital much longer without someone
discovering who she is.Close Encounter. Meanwhile, Anna is beginning to like Edmund more and she feels guilty about disrupting his life, as well as Alex's. She also realizes that she reminds Edmund of Alex, and the feelings he had for her are returning. It's decided that Anna can no longer stay in the hospital, so they dress her in Alex's clothes and take her back to Wildwind. While there, Anna must pretend to be Alex when she comes face-to-face with Ryan and Gillian. (SOU 4/10/2001) Can AMC's David
Save Himself and Anna?- Alex turns to her worst enemy- David- this week on
AMC to help save her twin sister, Anna's life. But as the week begins, David is
more preoccupied with saving his own skin."Leslie has disappeared," explains Vincent Irizarry (David). "He has no idea where she is. Obviously, I can see why Tad and everybody would see that he had a hand in it, but this is one of those things where he doesn't have a clue." Jake interrogates David about Leslie's whereabouts, but Dixie reveals he was with her. However, David realizes that he is the prime suspect in Leslie's disappearance, and that if Leslie recovers and returns, she could spill the beans on all of his desicable deeds. David tries to put all of that out of his mind by sweet-talking Dixie, but Edmund interrupts their kiss to plead with David to help the ailing "Alex." Mortal enemies Alex and David work together to save Anna's life. "There may be hostility and major competition between the two of them, but when they put their heads together and their abilities, they're extraordinary," Irizarry adds. Meanwhile, Leslie wakes up in a mysterious location... (SOW 3/27/01) AMC: The Shocking
Returns of Alex- and Anna!: GH
fans rejoice: Anna Devane is alive! But you will have to check out sister ABC
soap AMC this week to find out more about her surprise return from the dead and
how it relates to Alex's mysterious disappearance.
"It's a really good story," promises Finola Hughes (Alex/Anna). "It exposes more of Alex's past, and I think the audience will be pleasantly surprised." Last week, Dimitri and Edmund finally tracked down Alex (who had been missing during Hughes' maternity leave). The brothers did a double take, though, when they saw Anna. Needless to say, Anna didn't die in that boat explosion in 1992 with her husband, Robert Scorpio, and their mortal enemy Cesar Faison. (As GH fans know, they left behind a daughter, Robin, who had visions of her "dead" parents in 1995 after learing she had HIV.) Since then, Faison has turned up on both Loving and GH. No word yet on whether Scorpio's injuries were actually fatal, but Tristan Rogers' manager reported at press time that the popular actor hadn't been approached by ABC to reprise the role of Robert on either AMC or GH. There was so much speculation when Hughes joined AMC in 1999 that she would turn out to be Anna, perhaps suffering from amnesia or working undercover for the WSB. Last summer, when Alex learned she and Anna were twin sisters, Hughes told SOW (vol. 11 issue 25): "What would be exciting is that Anna would be different now. A lot has happened to her, if she really is alive. I can't imagine the type of life she's led over the past seven or eight years." We'll know soon enough. (SOW 3/13/2001)
AMC's Hughes Has
Double Vision: When
AMC cast Finola Hughes as tough-as-nails Brit Alexandra Devane last year,
viewers wondered: Was Alex really tough-as-nails Brit Anna Devane, the role
Hughes played on GH from 1985-92 (and in 1995 as Anna's ghost)? Ultimately, Alex
turned out to be Alex... but last Friday, viewers saw her with twin Anna.
Hughes learned of her new dual role while away on maturnity leave (Alex had vanished from AMC) from Executive Producer Jean Dadario Burke. "She said, 'We're having trouble trying to find the right story to get you back.'" Hughes acknowledges that viewers have mixed reactions to Alex. "She's become so damn earnest," notes Hughes. "You have to have intrigue. So to perhaps bring Alex's character into another dimension, they thought the best thing would be to [bring] back the strong character of Anna. It's a relief." So if presumed-dead Anna's alive, will Robert Scorpio (played by Tristan Rogers, who allegedly died with her on GH) reprise his role? "I haven't heard a word," says Rogers's spokesperson. Hughes would love to re-team with Anna and Robert's daughter, Robin, played by her real-life pal, Kimberly McCullough, until 1999. "I'm gong to ply her with champagne," she cracks. (SOD 3/13/2001) Alex's
Shocking Return: Now that actress Finola Hughes has returned from maternity leave, Alex is poised to come
back to Pine Valley. All My Children considered several storylines to explain Alex's abrupt
departure in November. "We just wanted to make sure that we had the right story for her,
and I think we do," says Executive Producer Jean Dadario Burke. But will the story fly with husband Dimitri and ex-fiance Edmund? Her disappearance was a nightmare for the brothers. "There's a lot of unresolved stuff," notes Hughes. "With Dimitri, it's easier because it's a very organic relationship, and each time they see each other, it's straight back into the way they were. I think now with Edmund, it's going to be very tender. I think she has to approach him in a very tender way. The brothers will always fight, that's a given, and I think that she'll be treading carefully with them both for a while. But that's not her main concern when she comes back to Pine Valley. There's still the question of David and what he did and the question of where Alex has been and how that impacts on her life." Burke teases. "She's going to return with quite a surprise. That's all I'll say. I think it will all make sense. It seems kind of out there, but it will all make sense to the audience." Don't miss Friday! (SOD 3/6/2001)
