Braveheart-
Malcolm "Mac" Scorpio (SOD 1/16/2001)
When we first met
him: 1991
Always a hero? Already estranged from police commissioner brother Robert when he arrived
in town, Mac was immediately pegged a baddie by his sib, who believed that Mac
had blown up a tanker and tried to kill him. Family issues were eventually
resolved and misunderstood Mac went to become the police commish himself.
Derring-do: Stepped
in as surrogate father to niece Robin after Robert's death; on his wedding day
to Felicia, he captured stalker Ryan, who showed up at the church wedding
wearing a bomb; risked his life to bring home WSB agent Frisco when Maxie was
deathly ill, the stepped aside when Felicia briefly united with Frisco; took a
bullet to protect Robin during an Outback ambush; saved a kidnapped Felicia from
Faison.

Playing A Hero
What makes Mac a hero?
"He likes to try to stay true to himself. He's an idealist. He's a good
man. He loves his kids, he loves the people in his life and would do anything to
protect them and help them."
Mac started out as a
roguish bad boy. Is that still inside him? "I think so. I think
anybody, when pushed far enough, will do just about anything. I taped an episode
of Port Charles where Kevin asks Mac to fudge around with Lucy's arrest.
So, Mac's going to that roguish side to keep Lucy out of jail."
Are you a hero to you
daughter? Yes, because I live my life for both her and my wife, and I hope
she sees that. I just want to try to set a good example. I can only imagine that
I'm a hero because I'm there for her, wherever she is or whatever she is or
whatever she needs. That's what I'm here for."
What's the most heroic
thing you've ever done in real life? "We're heroes every day. Setting a good example for my daughter- for
example- that'd be the most heroic thing I could possibly do. That and just
walking through life every day being generous and kind to other people."
Growing up, did you
identify with heroes or villains on TV and in the movies? "Probably
all of my heroes. I mean, I was a Vic Marrow fan on Combat!, I was a
Johnny Gage fan on Emergency! and those guys on Adam-12. Whoever
were the hero-type guys."
