York: Bring
Back Robert Scorpio! (SID 2/6/2001)
I've experienced some incredible times here," he adds, crediting two past GH executive producers for Mac's promising start. "Gloria Monty brought Mac to Port Charles, then Wendy Riche developed him, and gave him different colors. Now, I believe that [new boss] Jill Farren Phelps is willing to refine him even more. I feel refreshed." Alas, things weren't this sunny for York in September 1999, when it was rumored he was being axed. Luckily, fan support kept his spirits up. "With the Internet, it's hard to control anything," he states. "People can say anything, anywhere, and all of a sudden, [everyone] believes it. At the time, it was very disconcerting, but it also [led] me to say, 'You're good at what you do; go do it.' That transition empowered me to try to be the best I can be." York now looks to the possibilities for Mac's future. "There are a lot of pressures on him as police commissioner," he notes. "Plus, there's the transition in his relationship with [wife] Felicia. I believe the show is going to get deeper into the character content of relationships. We all need to be human." He then adds: "I'd love for them to bring back Tristan Rogers. With all these changes in Mac, having his brother back would add that much more excitement. And I don't think the fans would mind either!" |
