A Happy Homebody, Hubby and Daddy- John J. York (Mac, GH)
by Rosemary Rossi, Soap Opera Update 12/12/95

He's a daytime sex symbol to millions of adoring fans, but the real John J. York is a self-confessed homebody- especially since he and his family moved into their spacious new home.

John, who plays adventurous Mac Scorpio on GH, his wife Vicki and their 3-year old daughter Schyler are thrilled about their new house near Los Angeles, which they're still decorating. John says he can't wait to get off work and drive home.

"Our home is my haven away from the world," John tells Soap Opera Magazine. "I look upon it as an incredible achievement for my wife Vicki and me.  When we first met, we were both dirt-poor, but we made it together.  We've been married seven years and I knew her three years before that, so in the past 10 years we went from nothing to this beautiful home on a double lot with a big swimming pool.  There's so much room here."

Together, John and Vicki have refinished the floors and painted the rooms, and they're now picking out new furniture.  John is also making sure thre are fun things for them to do outside, besides splashing in the pool.  "I have a couple of basketball hoops, one by the pool and another by the yard.  There's one small hoop for Schyler, and I have one on the garage for a bigger ball.

Schyler is the apple of her daddy's eye, and they do almost everything together.  As soon as he gets home, she's running to him, demanding that he read books to her- not just one, but 10 or 20 in a row.  "We have a lot of fun," John says, smiling fondly at his cute little moppet.  "I'm surprised it's not like that for every parent in the world.  Children are everything."

"Raising Schyler and watching her grow and develop into a young girl is the most incredible thing that's ever happened to me in my life!"  Gazing around at his big, family-friendly backyard, John grinned contentedly.  "I love my life," he said enthusiastically.  "I really don't have a very complicated life.  It's very simple.  I go home, I hug Schyler to death and I hug my wife to death and we go on with our day.  There's nothing else I'd rather be doing."
