"They were once one of the hottest couples on General Hospital. The beautiful English stranger and the renegade town hero. They were the most unlikely of twosomes, but that didn't stop them from becoming one of the hottest pairings in Port Charles! Flash back to 1982. Luke (Tony Geary) decided to take a hiking trip in the mountains to clear his mind after the death of wife Laura (Genie Francis). There, he met Holly Sutton (Emma Samms). Upon their talking, he found that Holly had inherited land in Port Charles. They went to the land, finding it plentiful with oil. The two started looking for investors, but what Luke didn't know that the whole thing was a scam, set up by Holly and her family. The two fell passionately in love and had viewers' television screens melting with each and every scene. A desperate Holly finally told Luke the truth, but not without a fight that had Luke leaving Port Charles and its residents. While all believed he was dead, he was actually just temporarily paralyzed. Holly soon found she was pregnant with Luke's child, and Robert (Tristan Rogers) married her to save her from being deported. She eventually lost the baby. When Luke did return, he found the two of them desperately in love. He severed his friendship with Robert and denied his feelings for Holly. Now, Holly is back, but Luke's not Luke anymore. Now he's Bill, a fairly conservative businessman. Holly's return to Port Charles didn't automatically have her paired with him, but with all the events that have since ensued between them, their joining together was inevitable! But why did General Hospital decide to pair these two charismatic once again? It could be for several reasons. Either producers believe that the two could once again recreate the old magic between them, or they want an opening to bring back the character Luke (which is quite likely). They were a ratings winner once before, and they could be again, with the right script. One of the best aspects of their return has been the move back to traditional 'soap opera', which General Hospital has always been famous for. Gone are the criminal chases and action adventures that dominated the show in the late 1980s. Now is the time for a return to romance and family. This time we get to see beautiful scenery and tender scenes between two people in love. When the show took Bill and Holly on an adventure that revolved around their being lost in a jungle and captured by bandits, the producers made sure they had moments of tranquility. Scenes of the twosome sharing a playful moment in a lagoon, where they share their 'first' kiss, were truly memorable. With GH's exciting changes, Tony and Emma just may have a chance to make their story work as beautifully as before. Who says some things aren't better the second time around?" |
