Feelings
Since Robert won't see her, Anna goes to his office with dinner. He half-heartedly
asks her not to louse up his office with food, but when she won't leave, he starts to open
up about his feelings. "I really have ice water running through my veins?"
he asks, to which Anna says "Yes". After discussing his need to control his feelings
and his criticism with Robin, Robert responds by asking her, "Don't you think
I
can be hurt?" She asks him to open up to her more, but then he rushes off after
agreeing. He calls her later that night, frustrated about Mac's sentencing, and
suprises her with an intense kiss. A call from Frisco interrupts Robert's confessing
to Anna that Mac was responsible for killing their parents and Robert's fiancee. Meanwhile, Finian O'Toole, a buddy of Mac's, overhears that Frisco's found a tool bag from
the freighter and warns Mac. Mac then skips town before Robert can question him.
Robert tracks down the cabin Mac
rented and handcuffs him. The two exchange barbs as Robert drags Mac to the
nearest county store where Mac flirts with the clerk, Cynthia. Meanwhile back in
PC, Anna's going nuts trying to find Robert and Robin guesses why her
mum's really upset. "You're mad at him... and about him, aren't you? Robin
smugly guess. Figuring out where Robert is, Anna takes off and intercept him and
a handcuffed Mac at the train station. Riding back to PC, Mac charms Anna into
talking about how she met Robert and is surprised to learn he has a neice.
"You have nothing!" Robert growls and demands Anna not tell Mac
anything else. Unable to take the tension, Anna rushes off to the food cart
leaving an remorseful Robert behind. Mac suspects Robert's still in love with his
ex and makes snide remark, angering Robert who then knocks him out.
Anna's horrified to find Robert
standing over his unconscious brother. Back in his office, she tells him she's
frightened by his recent violent behavior but agrees to have dinner with
him. She arrives all dolled up to find him casually dressed in denim. A private
dinner is catered for the two and they begin kisses after Robert brings out
dessert. As he's about to carry her off to bed, the duo look up to find Robin
standing by the elevator watching them. Since her parents had refused to tell
her anything about their love life, the teen decided to find out herself.
Needless to say the romantic evening was kaput.
Close Calls
Mac gets extended community service
and with Finian's help gets a job on the docks. His secret boss warns him to get
rid of any evidence that will tie him to the sunk freighter. Thinking Mac's an
environmentalist like herself, Jenny talks a friend into loaning [ie.
temporarily steal] a wetsuit from Wyndam's department store so that Mac can get
samples to prove PCBs are leaking from the ELQ Tracy. He gets her the samples
but also recovers his bracelet and tool kit. Once Jenny's samples test positive,
she and her brother Bill present the evidence to Robert who gets a court order
for the Quartermaines to raise the ship. Mac's caught hiding the wetsuit on the
docks and Robert drags him in for questioning again but can't find out why his
baby bro was diving. Robert keeps the wetsuit, so Mac ends up paying Jenny for
it.
Later, Robert takes Anna to Wyndam's
lingerie section and surprises her when he asks the clerk for a pair of
stockings with red hearts. Anna's amusement is cut short when she spies a gun
being pointed at them in a mirror and screaming, pulls him down just in time.
The gunman makes his getaway and Robert embraces his shaken ex. Robert sends her
home and orders her to stay there. Instead, she's sneaks into Mac's room looking
for clues and has to hide under the bed when he returns. She takes the
opportunity to seach his pockets after he undresses to shower. Mac comes out in
a towel, singing "Mac the Knife" no less, when Jenny drops by to chat.
Robert shows up afterwards and warns Mac to stay away from his family. After
Robert leaves, Mac spies a broken shoe heel and catches Anna trying to sneak
out. He's amused by her feeble excuse and her staring at his chest and lets her
leave. Arriving home, Anna's surprised to find Robert sitting in the dark
waiting for her. When he asks her where she was, Anna sighs and responds
"Don't make me lie to you, Robert." He tells her to stay out of his
feud with Mac and silences her with a kiss. She decides not to tell him about
the address she took from Mac's pocket.
Family Feud
Robert and Frisco arrive at the
airport to find Anna and Felicia there. Turns out Robert and Frisco were also on
their way to Portland. Anna stutters nervously as she explains that she got the
address from Mac's pants and that she was hiding under Mac's bed. Robert
responds by tearing up her plane ticket and giving her a kiss goodbye.
Infuriated, Anna books a ticked on the next plane and a worried Felicia joins
her. In Portland, the four are shocked to discover the place is a house of ill
reput. Anna and Felicia blow their cover and Frisco drags Felicia outside to
explain while Robert has to listen to Anna gripe at him. "You shouldn't have
turn up the plane ticket, Robert," she lectures as they dance. They makes
amends and Anna leaves after agreeing that Robert was "better equiped given
the situation". He agrees to fill her in when he gets back.
Determined to help Robert, Anna
checks up on Mac who doesn't flinch under her interrogation. Curious about her
new found uncle, Robin tracks him down and follows him around trying to talk to
him. He blows her off until he learns that she's Robert's daughter and accepts
her invitation to dinner. Meanwhile Robert returns and agrees to come to dinner
at the Lavery house. After speaking to Mac, Robert summons Anna to the his
office and yells at her for talking to Mac and accidently telling Mac certain
details. She argues back and asks if he's still coming to dinner. Yeah he smiles
and hopefully suggests "I can have it catered" as she leaves to cook dinner.
Anna's shocked when Mac turns up with
flowers and announces Robin invited him to dinner. In midst of her trying to get
rid of him, Robert arrives and blows up after finding Mac with his family. Mac
makes a quick exit and Robert orders Olin to take Robin outside. Anna's
explanation that she didn't invite Mac falls on deaf ears as Robert accuses her
of inviting the brothers to dinner to learn more about their relationship and
past. After he starts bringing up Anna's past, she asks him to leave but they
make a truce of sorts.
Later, Robert invites her to lunch the next day to make amends.
"So, we're drinking in the middle of the day," Anna says suspiciously
and tries to get Robert to express his feelings about her. When he won't, she
causes a little scene. "What do you want, a bloom' poet?" he snipes
then makes up a silly yet slightly offensive rhyme to make her laugh.
