Camilla's Cross-stitch
In L'Orlean, Camillia tells the Mother Superior that she won't be returning to the
convent, despite Duke and her Aunt Janet's begging her to reconsider. Anna's confused by
Duke's vehement insistance that Camilla leave Port Charles. Privately, Camilla works on
the cross-stitch Abigail gave her to do, whose secret she told Camilla would free her from
the past.
Later, she pleads with Abigail to explain the design. The old witch reveals that
it's a family crest and that 21 years ago she was the midwife who delivered Camilla. She
then tells her that she's not a McKay, but the illigitimate daughter of the nasty Baron
Varony. The McKay baby was stillborn, so Abigail switched the baby in order to give
Camilla a family, as the Baron wanted nothing to do with the baby and had ordered
Camillia's mother, Adele Thayer, to leave.
Aunt Janet's furious when Camilla tells her
what Abigail said, but Camilla insists on seeing the Baron. He denies her claim and orders
her out, but thanks to Abigail, the Baron's housekeeper pulls Camilla aside and confirms
the story. She and Abigail had been responsible for the switch, and she gives Camilla a
picture of her mother, who looked just like her. A delighted Camilla realizes that she and
Duke are not related after all and could be together, once she gets Anna out of the way.
Plotting, Camilla decides to take up Anna's offer to live with her and Duke in the
penthouse.
"Now we can be together- at last!" a
thrilled Camillia tells Duke after explaining they are not really brother and
sister. Duke insists he loves only Anna and pleads with Camillia to let the past
go, adding, "You'll destroy yourself, don't you see!"
A mysterious candlestick arrives in the mail for
Camillia. With Tom Hardy's help, Camillia remembers what really happened in
L'Orleans but is too late to stop reporter Carlin from exposing it. On May 1st,
1987, at Duke's
Club, Anna walks down the aisle to her groom when a bevy of reporters crash the
ceremony. As a terrified Robin clings her mom, Carlin smugly shoves a newspaper
in Anna's face with the headlines, "Police chief to marry man who covered
up murder!" Upstairs, a stunned Anna is finally told the real secret of
L'Orleans and refuses to forgive Duke for his continual lying. Camilla
apologies to a Duke and Jake agrees to help represent them. Duke's pleas for
forgiveness fall on death ears as a distraught Anna has to carry out the
extraditition orders for Camilla and Duke to stand trial in L'Orleans.
