The Puzzle Pieces
Are Beginning to Fit
Despite her brave front, Anna is
devastated by Duke's treachery. Robin's confused over Uncle Duke's
arrest. Duke continues to claim Bert is Mr. Big. "That's
ridiculous," Bert lies when he comes to. Of course it is, Anna
assures him. After questioning Bert, Robert finally accepts that his old
friend is involved in organized crime. Bert claims Duke shot him to
prevent him from apprehending a hood named Stan Radner. But Radner was
in Utah being arrested at the time, Robert tells a stunned Anna.
Meanwhile, Angus McKay, the head of the crime syndicate, orders a hit on
Duke. Frisco's snooping
around the waterfront hits paydirt when he spots a suspicious man
talking to Damon. He takes pictures with his WSB camera and reports back
to Scorpio. Sean runs a check on the man, Bellows, and learns he's using
an alias. Bellows's address is the same as that of Henderson, Ellerbee,
the other crime boss is using, Frisco notes. Looks like the organization
is laundering more than money in Port Charles, Robert says grimly.
They're laundering know criminals too!
Not
tipping their hand to Bert, Robert and Anna come up with a plan to hide
Duke until they can crack the criminal ring. Thanks to Frisco, Felicia
and Sean, Duke manages to escape from Ramsey's police escort of bad cops
who were taking him to his death instead of the courtroom as per Bert's
instructions. As arranged, Lavery is on his way to the safest hideout
Robert and Anna know of- the lovenest cabin Duke bought to take Anna to
is listed under a different name. No one knows it's location except the
trio. An agitated Burt orders his men to shoot Lavery on sight. Robert
Turns on Anna
Worried that Robin will be a target,
Robert wants her in a secured environment. Godfather Sean arranges for a
child's room to be constructed in behind a secret door in his penthouse.
They're going to play a spy game, Donely tells the excited little girl.
Robin's delivered to the penthouse without detection. Robert's pleased
that Sean has converted the WSB computer to serve also as a video game
for Robin.
"How do I thank a friend like you?" Robert asks is best friend. [transcript] With
Robin safely tucked away, Robert arranges to have it look like Anna
helped Duke escape by planting one of her bracelets in the back of the
prison van. [transcript] Acting the part of an outraged ex, Robert throws Bert off
base by attacking Anna's reputation as a cop. Meanwhile, Anna, acting
her part, "flees" to the cabin where she and Duke spend an
awkward night together. He's her prisoner, Anna informs Duke,
brandishing her gun at him. That's all. Duke's devastated but clings to
the belief that she still loves him.
Murdering
Lavery
As ordered by Robert, Frisco keeps
the Henderson/Ellerbee mansion under surveillance. The mansion is
conviently located next to the Q mansion. After overhearing the phrase
"Sister Island," Frisco passes it along to Sean, who comes up
with nothing. Undaunted, Sean has Frisco tap the new phone system Damon
has installed in Duke's basement. Frisco learns Sister Island is a ship.
Robert's
looking forward to "killing" Duke. The plan is set in motion.
Duke will call Angel and asks him to close out his account. Anna will
call Robert at the station where Robert will make sure Bert is present.
The idea is to make Bert think Duke and Anna are skipping town. When
Anna calls, Robert berates her for betraying the force. He's taking
Robin away, Scorpio says while Bert listens in. Anna can hear all about
it on Tiffany's show tonight. Afterwards, Robert "confides" in
Bert that it's just an act to lure Anna and Duke into the open. Bert's
thrilled. That night, Bert tunes in to the
interview, not knowing that the interview had been pretaped. Earlier,
with Tiffany's help, the livingroom of Sean's penthouse is set up to
look like the Brownstone living room and Robert and Robin bid Port
Charles "goodbye" in their interview with Tiff. Sean's already
spirited Robin away to Mexico. As planned, Duke and Anna return to town
to pick up his cash and retrieve Robin. Robert and Bert are waiting for
them at the deserted Brownstone where Robert is suppose to
"shoot" Duke dead. Unfortunately Bert's not taking any chances
and beats Robert to the draw. Robert and Anna try to hide their shock as
they all fuss over the fallen Scotsman.
While
a "dead" Duke is wheeled to the morgue, an anguished Anna does
some fast talking to convince Bert that she was an unwilling hostage.
Bert buys it, much to Robert and Anna's relief. Thankfully Sean had
exchanged Bert's bullets for blanks so Lavery is very much alive. Tony's
not happy with his involvement in the signing of Duke's death
certificate, especially with him up for promotion. Lavery is then
spirited away to the Asian Quarter catacombs.
Who's
The Pilgrim
Lonely Anna sneaks off to bring Duke
a meal. Duke immediately perks up and badgers his lover to admit she
still loves him. She confesses that seeing him fall from Bert's bullets
forced her to admit to herself that she never stopped loving him. The
lovers reunion is interrupted by an angry Aussie. Glowering, Robert
reminds his ex that he ordered her to stay away from Duke until the case
is wrapped up. They can't risk Duke being found.
With
Duke out of the way, Damon takes over the club. The first thing he does
is fire snoopy Frisco. Without no access, Frisco can't monitor the mob's
activities. Robert agress to bring in Angel, who's thrilled to hear his
best friend is still alive. Angel takes over Frisco's survellience
duties at the club. Through the eavesdropping network, the group learns
that the boat Sister Island is docked nearby and that a mob kingpin
named "The Pilgrim" is aboard. They also learn that there's a
floppy disc lying around that details all the mob's activities. The disc
is eventually located. Bert's
announcement that he plans to retire comes as no surprise to Robert.
What better smokescreen to spirit Pilgrim and the boys into town than a
gala event like Ramsey's retirement? Robert observes to Anna. As part of
their plan, Frisco sneaks aboard Sister Island and tells Pilgrim he's
changed sides. So has Damon he claims. Pilgrim doesn't buy it until
Robert sets Damon up to look that way. Pilgrim gives Frisco the charge
to kill Damon. At a hotel, a worried Jones isn't sure he can go through
with the hit until the room service waitress shows up. It's his old
police partner, Sam. Frisco scribles that a hit is going down in his
gravy. Sam passes the news onto Scorpio.
End
Game
Set up, Damon has no choice but to go
along with Scorpio's plan. Alerted to the hit, Robert makes Damon wear a
bullet-proof vest and arranges for Tiff to film the "hit" for
her television show. Pilgrim catches the show but notices the vest.
Playing along, Pilgrim gives Frisco his first assignment to drive a
jeep, equiped with a special hatch, to a drop-off point. When Frisco
pulls the lever, he'll be dropping millions of mob money into a secret
manhole. Sean returns to help
Robert complete their plan. Together, they figure out where the secret
manhole is and duplicate it. Thus, when Frisco makes his drop, he'll
literally be dropping the money into the police's hands! Frisco narrowly
gets killed in the exchange due to the bomb-rigged watch Pilgrim have
him.
When Bert's retirement party
ends, Robert walks out with his buddy. What's so important about his
mysterious meeting? Robert asks casually as they head for the new
Dockworkers' Savings and Loan Bank. Bert's on his way to divvy up the
money. Shots ring out in the night. Pilgrim's put out a hit on Bert and
Robert. Duke jumps out of the shadows and takes the bullet meant for
Robert. Anna arrives just in time to accompany a wounded Duke to the
hospital. Bert goes into shock and is taken away. At the bank, Pilgrim
and his men are arrested. At
the hospital, a tearful Anna tells Robert how she and Duke heard that
Damon was poisoned in jail (by his own lawyer, who was following
Pilgrim's instructions). They suspected the worst and Duke insisted on
helping, Anna sobs. Now he's paralyzed!
