 The Setting: Sonny's Penthouse.
Alan Quartermaine has just
arrived to give Robin the results of her HIV test. The results are positive. Robin is
infected with the HIV virus. Her first reaction is that the test came out wrong, but Alan
assures her that it is correct. He asks her if there is anything he can do for her, but
she says no. He then leaves, and Stone comes downstairs, but she can't tell him what she
just found out. Stone goes back upstairs, and Robin is left alone. She starts to cry and
whispers:
Robin: "Help me, Mom. I want my Mom... "
(The spirit of Robin's mom, Anna, appears to Robin in her time of need...She wraps her
arms around Robin, holding her close.)
Anna: "It's all right... "
Robin: "It's not... "
Anna: "Shh-hh…I know…I know.. "
Robin: "You do, don't you?"
Anna: "Oh yes, I do, darling. Oh, I love you... "
Robin: "I love you too. I love Stone. It was the most
wonderful thing in my life falling in love with him. It wasn't supposed to..oh god..turn
out like this... "
Anna: "It's not over.. "
Robin: "It almost is for Stone. Now I have to tell him I have
this virus. Mom, it's all my fault, I knew about protection, I was just so in love with
him, I just didn't think... "
Anna: "If you want me to blame you, I'm afraid I can't...
"
Robin: "I want you not to blame Stone, just don't be mad at
him, please, he's made me so happy, I'm better because of him, you know, I grew up, so is
he. He had a hard life before, his parents weren't like you and dad. "
Anna: "Yeah, I know what he's been through...I know. I know
what you've been through. I love him too, of course. When someone adores your child, you
tend to think that person's very special... "
Robin: "Thank you. I wish you could know him. You'd be so good
for him... "
Anna: "He's found a soulmate and he has true friends, he knows
he's loved. He's found his path, he doesn't need me. But you do... "
Robin: "Mom, I'm so scared... "
Anna: "I know you are.. "
Robin: "Please, can't you make it go away?"
Anna: "That's all that I want, is to keep you safe, fight this
for you... "
Robin: "Nobody's brave like you. When I was little, nothing
could touch me, because you'd stop it. I always knew that... "
Anna: "But you know more now, I was only human, and I couldn't
stay here to protect you. My spirit is strong and I would battle this disease for you, but
I can't... "
Robin: "Maybe I wanna die, I'd be with you... "
Anna: "Sweetheart, I'm with you all the time. Look, you're
frightened and sad. But underneath these tears is a blazing will to live and that is your
secret weapon... "
Robin: "But Stone wants to live...I'm not Stone... "
Anna: "Right, exactly what I was thinking... "
Robin: "You heard Dr. Quartermaine?"
Anna: "Umm..hmm, you trust Alan.. Even more, trust yourself.
You made good choices.. "
Robin: "Even though I.... "
Anna: "Yeah...even though. What I said to you that first day
in first grade remains true.. "
Robin: "Have fun, don't bite?" (They both laugh)
Anna: "I'd forgotten that... hmm, yeah, that's good advice.
No..you can't be perfect, uh, God given curiosity prevents that. But you can
be honorable and you have consistently behaved with honor. That makes me very proud.
I also like the fact that you're a stunning young woman.. " (She smiles
at Robin. They both look at Robin's cameo ring)
Robin: "Stone gave it to me. It already feels like a
part of me. He gave it to me so that I'd never forget him. Now, I wonder who's
never gonna forget me.. "
Anna: "Listen..darling, you know things that women your age
should never have to know. But it won't be wasted knowledge, you're gonna use it...
"
Robin: "How?"
Anna: "You'll become a teacher."
Robin: "In spite of being HIV positive?"
Anna: "Perhaps because of it. You will make a difference in
the world. And I promise you will live a long, long time and you'll always be loved...
" (Anna's spirit disappears... )
