Robert's
Birthday Party
Robert
(looking around): "What, what happens?" (He tries to run off) "
I guess it's a good time for a drink..."
Kate: "No, no, no, you're staying right here."
Robin runs up with a roll of paper tied with string and says to Robert, "Daddy, Happy birthday!" (She laughs happily, and the crowd uhs and ahs as Robin hands him the paper.)
Robert: "What, what's this sweetheart?"
Robin: "It's your present. Go on and open it.
Robert: "Here, in front of everyone? (Everyone says "Yes" and "Yeah" to encourage him.)
Robin: "They'd kinda like to see the look on your face when you figure out what it is."
Robert (immediately suspicious): "I don't think I like the sound of this."
Kate: "Aw, go ahead, open it. (Everyone agrees with Kate.)
Robert unrolls the paper to reveal a drawing Robin's done of him with a dog. Robert: "Well look at that. Isn't that cute? It's a picture of a dog. Isn't that, isn't that sweet, huh?" (He's obviously not sure what to make of the drawing.) "Isn't that sweet?"
Robin: "Daddy, uh, it's not just a picture."
Robert (now looking really nervous): "What'da mean, luv?"
Robin: I'm giving you the real thing, your own dog!" (Everyone gasps, then start laughing.)
Robert: "What?!"
Robin (laughing joyously): "Can you believe it?"
Robert: "No!"
Robin laughs even more. Robin: "Oh, I was hoping to have him today, his name is Friday and he's so cute, but he hasn't had all his shots yet. You can pick him up tomorrow." [click here to see a picture of Friday Scorpio. Everyone's still laughing. Sean and Tiffany, who are standing behind Robert, pat him on the back.)
Robert (trying not to look at his daughter): "Well, um... that's um... that's a, that's a really sweet adorable gift, isn't it?"
Robin: "Well, thank you. I thought since you're living alone now, you'd need a friend."
Robert: "Yeah, just what I need, aye, someone to look after."
Robin: "Yeah, you like him, don' you? Isn't he cute?"
Robert: "Well, he's a... um, uh, yeah, um... Darling, is he, um, is he house broken?" (Everyone laughs again, especially Anna, since it's been barely a year since Robert did the same thing to her by buying Robin a puppy without the Lavery's permission. Jiggs, Robin's German Shepard puppy, wasn't house broken either.)
Robin (Putting her hands on her hips): "Of course not! That's the most, that's the fun part of having a dog, house training him."
(Everyone laughing again. Sean & Tiff pat Robert on the back again, and Sean adds his two cents.) Sean (referring to house breaking the dog) "You get your pooper scooper."
Robert: "I can hardly wait, yeah."
Sean: "Two pooper scoopers."
Robin (referring to the drawing): "I want to show everyone. I want everyone to see it."
Robert: "Yeah, why don't you do that. Off you go." (He then turns to Kate) "Is this your idea?"
Kate (laughing hard): "No, but I really wish I thought of it."
Robert: "Yeah, well you're gonna be looking after that mutt during the week when I'm not around."
Kate: "Well, I don't know about that, but I will take care of him while you're (she mutters something, vacation maybe?)."
Robert: "Well, yeah, you're not gonna see me for a while while he's being house broken."
The party continues. A cake is wheeled out, saying "Happy Birthday, Daddy" and decorated with a police car on top.
