Robert Comforts Anna About Their Past
Robert (coming out of the kitchen): "Katherine's uh finishing up in there. I think we're gonna have to go home, she wants to clean up before the evening.
Anna: "You shouldn't let her do the washing up."
Robert (smiling): "She needs the practice." (He notices that she's distracted and sad.)
Anna: "Uh, chauvenist."
Robert: "Yeah, she said the same thing. Look, uh, you sure you want to go out?"
Anna (half-heartedly): "Yeah, course."
Robert: "I saw your face when Robin mentioned that paper."
Anna: "We can't let that happen."
Robert: "Well, don't make a big thing over it and it'll just pass."
Anna (not convinced): "Well, she's not a child anymore. Don't you think we ought to tell her about it?"
Robert: "I think that would just make it worst."
Anna: "How?"
Robert: "Well, she'll ask questions. You've trained her quite well."
Anna (closes her eyes and shutters): "Don't say that. Oh, I couldn't stand it... I can't even think about it...."
Robert: "Then don't."
Anna (looks sadly at him): "If she ever found out, I think I'd die."
Robert: "She won't find out."
Anna (shaking her head): "I wouldn't be able to face her."
Robert: "You listen to me. Now you're a good detective, one of the best. But you're an even better mother. Don't ever forget that."
Anna: "If she ever found out, she'd hate me."
Robert (walks over to her): "She's not going to find out. She loves you too much. Put a smile on your face, think about the good time we're gonna have tonight."
Anna (looks grateful at him): "Thanks for everything, Robert."
Robert (smiles): "Da nada." (He sits down on the couch and she follows suit) "Good to have the old Sean back, you know."
Anna (staring off into space, still distracted): "Yeah, he was a real help to Frisco."
Robert: "Yeah, nice for him to pick up the tab tonight too. Know, I got a bit worried about him there for a while."
Anna: "Well, you were wrong then."
Robert: "Uh. Hard to believe that about us, huh? Super cops, being wrong." (Anna doesn't answer, she's lost in memories of the past).
