Robin and Robbie play a game
from the Kimberly McCullough Friendship Association

In order to stop Robert from running off and getting himself killed trying to rescue Frisco from the Asian Quarter, Anna knocked him out and tied him up, and then went out herself to complete the task.

Anna (to Robert, after she knocked him out):  "I hope you’ll forgive me, but I have to be certain that Robin has at least one parent alive."

Later, after Anna has left, Robin appears at the top of the staircase and sees Robert behind the bar, gagged, bound and handcuffed, and still out cold. She calls out "Robbie", and skips down the stairs, across the room, and over to where an unconsciousRobert is propped up.

Robin:  "Are we playing another game? If we are, and Grandma’s playing the game, I’d better fix you a nice cup of tea. Why didn’t you tell me about the new game?"

**Historian’s note: The "game" Robin is referring to is a fake kidnapping that Anna and Robert organised, so that Robin would know what to do if she were ever kidnapped. Frisco pretended to kidnap her, and then Anna and Robert rescued her.**

The scene fades out as she skips off into the kitchen. The scene fades back in to Robert waking up and trying to get his bearings. He starts making noises. Robin comes in carrying the teapot. Seeing him struggling against his bindings, Robin places the teapot on the bar, and goes over to him.

robindaddy.jpg (13264 bytes)Robin: "Oh, Felicia’s not here yet Robbie. (the phone starts ringing as she goes to undo his gag) Would you like me to answer the phone?"

Robert (Sputtering, spitting, trying to get the taste of cloth out of his mouth): "Yeah, please, would you?"

Robin runs around to the other side of the bar, and with some difficulty manages to climb up onto one of the tall barstools and picks up the phone. She says "Hello," listens, but hears no voices. She makes a face, and hangs up the phone.

Robin (shrugging her shoulders as she climbs down off the barstool):   "I guess they must have hung up." (She goes back around the bar to where Robert is sitting, still tied up)  "I’m glad you’re awake."

Robert (surprised):  "Awake? You mean, you knew I was here all along?"

Robin (very matter-of-fact):  "Yes. I made some tea." (She points to the teapot on the bar.) "Would you like some?"

Robert (trying to come up with a way to get untied):  "Yeah, yeah, that’s a great idea. I’d love some."

Robin:  "OK, I’ll pour you a cup." (She goes around and climbs up on the barstool again.)

Robert:  "Robin, hold on a second, love. Hang on, before you do that." (Robin climbs back down and goes back over to him. He looks up at her.)   "I can’t very well drink tea if I’m all tied up, can I?"

Robin (smiling):  "Sure you can, if I hold the cup for you."

Robert (trying to persuade her):  "Well..uh…uh…I really think it’d…uh… it’d be better if…uh..if you could untie my feet, and…uh…take the cuffs off me…" (in a hopeful tone.)   "I can tell you where there’s another key."

Robin (thinks it over quickly):  "No, I think it’s better if I just hold the cup." (She starts to pour him a cup of tea.)

Robert: Darling, come on. At least let me get on my feet.

(Robin, having finished pouring the tea, hops of the barstool, comes around and carefully takes the teacup in her hands, and holds it to Robert’s mouth.)  Robin:  "I can’t."

Robert (sputtering. He can’t talk properly because Robin is holding the teacup to his mouth, trying to get him to drink some): "Uh…um, may I …uh…Robin may I ask…uh…why not?"

Robin (as if trying to explain something to a silly child):   "Cause it would spoil the game!"

Robert (surprised):  "Game?"

Robin: "Yeah."  (She giggles when Robert is unsuccesful in trying to drink the tea, and it dribbles down his shirt.)

Robert: "Yeah, well, you see…yeah, we were playing a game at one point…You’re right…But that game is now over."

Robin:  "Not until you’re rescued."  (She carefully places the teacup back on the bar, and then goes over to crouch by Robert’s feet.)

Robert (still trying to convince Robin):   "Well…uh…OK. So rescue me!"

Robin: "No."  (She takes hold of the ropes tying his feet together, and knots the rope once more.)  "There needs to be more excitement first. Like when Frisco pretended to kidnap me."

Robert:  "And YOU were rescued."

Robin: Yes! (she continues to tie knots in the ropes around his feet) I’m waiting for that to happen. Luv must have some plans for that.

Robert:  "Darling, you know what I think we’d better do?"

Robin:  "What?"

Robert:  "Well, there’s some security men just outside there, so why don’t you go to the front door, and just stick your head out and get one to come in here?"

Robin (thinking it over):  "Well… I don’t think that’s such a good idea, Robbie."

Robert (starting to get kind of frustrated):  "May I ask why not?"

Robin: "Cause the Asians are going to save you, with the special key. They were here a little while ago."

Robert:  "With Anna?"

Robin:  "Yes. I didn’t hear much about their plan, but they were talking about rescuing Frisco. So he probably gets rescued first."

Robert (getting indignant—but then, who wouldn’t when being held captive by your six year old daughter?):  "Yeah, well I’m supposed to be in on that rescue!"

Robin (smiling, and getting a teasing lilt to her voice):  "I bet you weren’t…"

Robert (pleading with her):  "Now come on, darling—please undo my feet."

Robin (reproachfully, shaking her head and giggling):  "You are trying to trick me—you’re good at this."

(The phone starts ringing.)  Robert: "Can you answer that?"

Robin:  "Okay!"  (She runs around to the other side of the bar and climbs onto the barstool once again)

Robert:  "Now listen, if that’s Anna, you tell her I don’t want to play this game anymore, and she is to come home immediately."

Robin:  "If it’s Luv, I’ll tell her."

Robert (starting to sound urgent):  "And if it’s anyone else, tell them I’m tied and handcuffed."

Robin: "Okay!" (She picks up the phone) "Hi!…Yes it is…I’m just fine. How are you?…"

Robert: "Who is it?"

Robin (continuing her phone conversation): "Yes, he’s fine…No, he can’t come to the phone right now…"

Robert:  "Whoever it is, tell them WHY!"

Robin (still talking into the phone):  "Yes, we’re playing a game. When will you be here?"

Robert: "Robin darling.. tell them to come over right away, will you? Immediately. Who is it anyway?"

Robin:  "Robbie wants to see you soon. But there’s no hurry, ‘cause we’re having fun. Bye Felicia."  (She hangs up the phone.)

Robert:  "Felicia?!!"

Robin (reassuring him):  "She’ll be here soon, Robbie."  (She once again climbs down off the stool and comes around the bar.)

Robert:  "Robin, we have to have a serious talk."

Robin:  "OK."

Robert:  "You have to take the handcuffs off me."

Robin:  "And what else?"

Robert:  "And you have to untie my feet... there’s a love."

Robin:  "Hmmm…" (she starts to walk away, around the bar)

Robert (calling after her):  "Where are you going?! "

Robin: I’m pouring you a cup of tea.

Robert: (pleading once again) Come on darling, undo me first, will you?

Robin (lecturing him):  "No Robbie, fair is fair. It’s Luv’s turn to win one of our games."

Robert (grumbling): "Ohh, Anna! The moon, Anna!"

Robin comes over to him with a fresh cup of tea, and tries to help him drink it once again. She giggles as he dribbles more of his tea down his shirt. The scene fades out. The scene fades back in again with Robert still tied up behind the bar, and Robin at the top of the staircase, on the landing, looking out the window.

Robert (calling out for her because he can’t see her, because she’s behind him):  "Robin? Robin?"

Robin (moves away from the window):  "Robbie, I’m keeping a lookout for the Annis. They could be here any minute."

Robert:  "Darling, I want you to come here. We’ve got to have a little talk."

Robin:  "To make plans?"

Robert:  "Yeah, but I need you down here."

(Robin comes happily skipping down the stairs and over to where Robert still sits.)  Robin:   "Do you want some tea or something?"

Robert:  "No, sweetheart... just come here."

Robin:  "Okay. What?"

Robert:  "Well, I think it’s time for us to have a very serious talk."

Robin (reproachfully):  "You’re going to try to talk me into letting you loose."

Robert (trying to explain):  "Honey, you see this game really isn’t for little children."

Robin:  "Some kind of grownup game?"

Robert (thankful that he’s finally getting through):   "Yeah…, that’s it. You see, I’ve got to get out of this game so that I can get into the other game."

Robin:  "The grownup game."

Robert:  "Right. And then that way, we can start this whole game all over again."

Robin:  "When?"

Robert:  "When I get home from work tonight."

Robin:  "OK!"

Robert:  "Well, could you have a go at that?"  (He indicates the mess of knots around his feet. Robin crouches down beside his feet and starts on the knots. She tugs and pulls, but can’t get them undone.)

Robin:  "These are really tough knots."

Robert:  "I’ll tell you what. You just get the cuffs off me, and I’ll undo the knots."

Robin:  "Oh, OK."  (She gets up and starts looking around the room.)

Robert:  "You looking for the key? OK, well the key’s in a little green box over there, on that table. The one near the platypus."

Robin:  "Oh, there, that’s it. OK."  (She gets up and goes over, opens the box, and pulls out a little key on a string.)  "I think I found it."  (She holds it up triumphantly to Robert.)

Robert:  "Oh, let me have a look. Oh, yeah, that’s it! Bring it over here, love."

(She runs over to him and goes to unlock the handcuffs.)  Robin:   "Hold real still…"

Robert:  "Oh, yeah, OK…"  (As they work on his handcuffs, he begins to talk.)  "You know, sometimes my work takes me away from here for long periods of time. Like this afternoon for instance. Do you still understand that?"

Robin (nods):  "Sure."

Robert:  "I want you to know how truly special you are to me."

Robin:  "I love you, too, Robbie."

Robert (reaches down and kisses her hand):  "You are very, very precious to me, you know that?"

Robin (smiling):  "That’s nice."  (Robert groans as he starts to get up.)  "Are you a little stiff?"

Robert:  "Yeah."  (He gets to his feet, and she follows.)  "Just a little."

(She takes his hand as they walk across the room. On the other side of the room, he turns to face her, and crouches down in front of her.)  Robert:   "Do you love Anna?"

Robin:  "Luv? Well, a lot, yeah."

Robert:  "Good. Because I’d kinda like you to grow up like her."

Robin:  "Do you really think I could?"

Robert:  "Well, I think you’re well on the way already. You’re a very beautiful, a very brave and a very loving young woman."

Robin:  "I hope so."  (She smiles and giggles. They hug.)

Robert (he goes to stand up, and groans):  "OK  Ugh, gotta loosen up a little bit here."

Robin (she looks up at him):  "Robbie?"

Robert:  "Yeah?"

Robin:  "You look different today. Are you alright?"

Robert:  "Every time I see you, I suddenly become perfect again."  (Robin giggles, and Robert bends down to kiss her on the cheek.)   "Okay, Felicia’s going to be here any minute, but until she gets here, I want one of the security men outside to come in and be with you, alright?"

Robin:  "Okay. Will you be seeing Luv?"

Robert:  "Very soon. More than anything else in the world, I hope very soon."  (He kisses Robin on the forehead and then heads for the door.)
