The Scorpios
Want a Place to Call Home
Robert (lifting his cup to his mouth): "I recall having more home cooked meals before we were married."
Anna (pouring sugar): "Well, they weren't necessarily home cooked, we just ate them at home."
Robin: "I suppose we're all gonna live in that hotel forever."
Anna: "No, we're not."
Robin (to Robert): "Daddy, when are we going to move into our new home?"
Robert (staring hard at Anna): "That's a question we'd all all like an answer to."
Anna: "I don't know, sweetheart. We are no closer to move in then when we signed the papers."
Robert: "Don't get me wrong. I can deal with hotels. I just can't put up with this restaurant food."
Anna: "Oh, it's disgusting." (Ruby appears with a tray of food.)
Ruby (handing Robin and Anna their plates): "Here, will you take that. I haven't got any hands free."
Robin and Anna (taking their plates): "Thank you very much."
Ruby (to Robert as she hands him his plate): "Well, eh, I heard that (referring to Robert & Anna's comments). Why don't I just pitch all of this on the floor and forget it."
Robert (protesting): "Rub, Rub, Rub, Rub, Rub... This place is the exception."
Anna (quickly): "No, no, Ruby. It's not what it sounds. Yeah, really, Ruby."
Robert: "Yeah."
Ruby: "That isn't what I heard. I quote you directly, 'All restaurant food is terrible', and that means my restaurant."
Anna: "No, no, no. We didn't mean your food, for goodness sakes." (She gives Robert a Yikes look.)
Robert (to Ruby who crosses her arms and gives him a stern look): "No, look at this." (He pokes at his food.) "This is the way I like everything. The eggs are yellow and the bacon is in grease..."
Robin: "Yeah, and the cereal is very crunchy and not soggy."
Ruby (smiling): "Okay, I think I get it. What I'm hearing is you want your own house and your own kitchen."
Robert: "You got that right."
Ruby: "Okay, eat up and I'll get you some freshly brewed coffee."
Anna: "Yes, very much. Ah, you're a great friend. Thank you."
Ruby (to Robin): "Uh, did you tell your daddy about your surprise?"
Robert (grimacing): "Why does Daddy feel some impending grief?"
Robin (swallows her food, motions for them to wait, and turns round in her chair, calling across the room): "Friday! Here boy, come here!" (Friday wanders in from the kitchen and over to Anna and Robin, who pet him while everyone ahs and ohs over him.)
Robert (to Friday): "Hey, hey, hey. What am I, chopped liver? I'm they guy that bought you to begin with. Come over here." (He grabs Friday's front paws and lifts him into his lap.) "C'mon. There's a good boy. I haven't seen you since you went away to the kennel after the earthquake."
Robin: "I think he wants to come home with us."
Robert (feeding Friday some food off his plate): "I think this is a good reason to get the family under one roof." (He stares pointedly at Anna.)
Robin: "And we can invite uncle Mac over every week. I'd cook."
Anna (amused): "You'd cook?"
Robert (to Robin): "Darling, the idea is to have Uncle Mac stay in Port Charles."
Robin (dishing back her father's sarcasm): "Funny."
Anna: "Well, it's better if she cooks than I cook."
Robert and Robin: "Yeah!"
Robert: "Yeah, we don't want to kill him." (Robin laughs.)
Scene fades out.... returns later where Anna's mumbling something to Robin as Robin's new friend, Jodie, comes into Kelly's Diner as she and Robin are going off to school together that morning.
Jodie: "Are you ready for school, Robin?"
Robin: "Yeah, I gotta get my stuff." (She gathers up her school stuff.)
Anna: "Hi, Jodie. How are you?"
Jodie: "Hi, Mrs. Scorpio. Alright."
Anna: "Yeah, Good."
Jodie (to Robin, referring to Robert): "This must be your padre?"
Robin (laughs): "Yeah, this is my dad." (Robert smiles.)
Robert (looking at all the pins and buttons decorating Jodie's clothes): "I see you're into collecting accessories."
Robin: "That's in, Dad. Don't you know that?"
Robert: "I'm in. I'm in. Anna, tell them I'm in."
Anna: "No, you're not in. It's just a phrase really."
Robert: "What about all those other phrases like cowabunga and gee whiz and..."
Anna: "Oh, I don't know."
Jodie: "That's pretty good. For a padre." (Robert laughs.)
Anna (to Robert): "That's a good thing, sweetheart." (To Robin) "Um, so how was your night with Jodie? Was it alright?"
Robin: "It was really cool."
Jodie: "Yeah. We did some grazing, caught some videos, you know."
Anna: "Oh, yeah?"
Robin (to Robert): "That means we ate and watched MTV."
Anna: "Thank you."
Robert: "Well, these days I consider that a full evening."
Anna: "Alright, sweetheart, bye bye. I love you."
Robin (hugging her mom): "Alright, well I'm going to leave now."
Anna: "Be good."
Robin: "I love you."
Robert: "What about a kiss here?" (Robin hugs and kisses her dad.)
Robin: "Okay, bye bye." (Robin and Jodie start heading toward the door.)
Robert (calling after Robin): "I love you, darling."
Robin: "Bye."
Anna: "Bye, Jodie."
Robert: "Bye." (The girls leave. Robert and Anna takes sips of their coffee.) "I'm starting to feel like I need a translator around her."
Anna: "Oh, we had
our thing in our day, didn't we?"
Robert (leans forward): "Now let's get back to the subject at hand. When do we have a home to live in."
Anna: "Well, I know! I mean we both have been so busy with..." (She leans forward and lowers her voice.) "..the Cartel that neither of us have been able to, you know, supervise the changes. But I promise, I will be home owner from hell soon."
Robert: "I'm groveling, really."
Anna (amused): "Yes?"
Robert: "I'll even put up with your cooking." (He quickly leans back as she reaches across the table to smack him, just missing. He then points at her, referring to her cooking.) "You know, that was an addendum to the wedding vows. That was the extreme sacrifice."
Anna (insulted): "I won't poison you... I hope." (She leans foward, solemn, and changes the topic.) "Okay, now, I'm going to set up a meeting with Faison."
Robert (shaking his head): "Anna, I LOVE you. The idea of you getting together with that guy drives me nuts!"
Anna (leans back in her chair): "Is it the idea of me and him, or the danger he represents?"
Robert: "A bit of both. I just happen to be turned on by this extraordinary femininity of yours."
Anna (confused): "I certainly hope so." (He laughs loudly.)
Robert: "It's not... It's, it's the idea that you can mix it with the bad boys on occassion. Especially when you start to get pushed to the edge. I find it sort of exciting."
Anna: "Well, that doesn't surprise you, does it?"
Robert: "No, but I've never explored those feelings before."
Anna (surprised): "Really?"
Robert: "Um?"
Anna (pensive): "Um. I like it. Remember on our honeymoon, we were discussing how the strongest connection between, you know, ourselves, was these kind of situations."
Robert: "Yeah, but I happen to love you with or without the situations."
Anna: "I know and I love you too. I couldn't go out there and do this if I didn't have you to sort of caught me if I fall." (Robert gets up, goes over to her, grabs her elbows, and pulls her up out of her chair into his arms.)
Robert: "And I've never fumbled a catch in my life." (They kiss.)
Ruby (approaching with the bill, teases the newlyweds): "Well, now about this x-rated movie...."
Anna (laughs): "Ah..."
Ruby: "I caught you." (Robert and Anna sit down.)
Ruby (wagging her pencil at Anna): "You have a lunch date. Bobbie, Felicia."
Anna: "Oh, my goodness." (She looks at her watch.) "Yes, I know, I know. Okay, I won't forget. I'll go over and talk to them now."
Ruby: "Oh, you're welcome."
Anna: "Okay, bye." (She gets up to leave.)
Robert (to Friday, who's sitting down by Robert's feet.): "Uh, it's alright, it's okay. One of these days we'll all be living under the same roof, and won't that be fun?"
Anna: "He'll be sleeping out under the terrace." (Friday barks in protest.)
Robert: "He likes to sleep in the house."
Anna: "He won't be sleeping in the bed."
Robert: "Well, just my side."
Anna: "Well, then you'll be the only one on your side. Bye, Ruby."
Robert (puts the money and bill into Friday's mouth): "Here. Leave a big tip, alright?" (Robert follows Anna out.)
Ruby (laughing): "Aw, good boy." (Friday spits out the money and bill, then picks up the bill and chews on it.)
