Holly Leaves Robert (Air date: July 17, 1985) part 2
Scene fades out. Scene cuts to the Scorpio living room where the phone is ringing again, as well as the doorbell. Holly puts down her pocketbook to answer the doorbell, and is shocked when she finds Robert standing there.

Robert: "Holly..."em4.jpg (9391 bytes)

Holly (startled): "Robert!"

Robert: "May I come in?" (She nods. He enters, glancing at the phone) "Since I'm here, you can safely answer the telephone, if you wish." (She goes over to the phone, which stops ringing, and she becomes a little unnerved now.)

Holly: "Whoever it was, gave up. Now that I think of it, Robert, I'm surprised you didn't let yourself in just now."

Robert: "I wanted you to have the option whether or not you wanted to see me."

Holly: "That's thoughtful. But it's still your house."

Robert: "I was afraid I might have missed you."

Holly: "No. I'm not leaving until later in the day. But you caught me just as I was going out."

Robert: "You're leaving... today, then, for certain."

Holly: "Yes. But I want to see some people, some places..."

Robert: "To say goodbye."

Holly: "Yes. Not many people I want to avoid.... explanations."

Robert: "I take it you have no plans for telling me where you're going."

Holly: "Sorry. I want to drop out of sight for awhile. Completely out of sight."

Robert: "Does that mean you haven't absolutely made up your mind about me, about our marriage... about a divorce?"

Holly: "No, it doesn't mean that."

Robert: "As you can see, I'm grabbing at straws."

Holly: "Don't. It's no good."

Robert: "I'm desperate, Holly."

Holly: "Don't say things like that. I am going to get a divorce."

Robert: "I see."

Holly: "My world has been turned upside down. The most important thing for me right now is to put things in perspective. That will take time. It will also take solitude. It's such a personal matter."

Robert: "Holly..."

Holly: "Please, I don't want to cry."

Robert: "I don't want to make you cry. All I want you to do is think back to what we had together."

Holly: "I've done that.... and done it."

Robert: "Don't throw it away. Please."

Holly: "You don't understand... I've done a lot of thinking, and I reach the same point every time. We didn't have enough going for us."

Robert: "That's not true."

Holly: "It was only an illusion.... on my part, not yours. I don't know what it was for you."

Robert: "It was everything, and it was no illusion."

Holly: "No dark side to it?"

Robert: "I'm not sure I know what you mean."

Holly: "The side of you I never knew."

Robert: "I managed to forget it."

Holly: "You were fortunate. I can't. I've got to find reality. See if I can live with it or not."

Robert: "If you decide you can, will you let me know?"

Holly: "I have a feeling it is going to take a long, long time."

Robert: "I don't care as long as I know you will call me before you take the last step. The divorce."

Holly: "You'd be notified, of course. I'm not trying to be cruel."

Robert: "That's not what I mean. I must hear it from you about the divorce."

Holly (hesitates a moment): "I will call you. But...." (she breaks off)

Robert: You were going to say something."

Holly: "It's possible that when that time comes, it won't matter very much if I call you or not."

Robert: "It will. I pray it will matter for you, too."

Holly: "I don't know. I can't see that far ahead." (She's close to tears now) "I can't see far ahead at all. Will you do one thing for me?"

Robert: "Anything."

Holly: "Don't try to find me."

Robert: "I don't know if I can stand not knowing where you are."

Holly: "I've got to be free. It will take time to break free of you. If I have the feeling you know where I am, if you're waiting for me at every turn... it won't work. That's why I don't want to tell you."

Robert: "Don't make me promise I won't try to find you."

Scene fades to commercial. Scene fades back to Kelly's diner where Felicia is giving an order to Ruby at the counter.

Felicia: "Two hamburgers, medium rare with everything on them."

Ruby (handing Felicia two cooked dishes): "Right on. Here are the two blue plate specials."

Felicia (taking the dishes): "Thank you." (she takes them over to the customers) "Here you are. And two iced teas coming up." (As she returns to the counter to get the iced teas, Robert and Celia enter. Celia's carrying her sketching supplies.)

Robert: "I'm glad you could see me, Celia.

Celia: "I know you're going to ask me about Holly, and there's not much I can tell you."

Robert: "At least have coffee with me?"

Celia: "Of course. I'm not trying to avoid you."

Robert: "Good. Here's a place."

Felicia: "Lunch menus?"

Robert: "Just two coffees." (to Celia) "You're sure?'

Celia: "Yes, thank you." (They sit down at a table. Felicia goes away to serves the ice teas and some coffee. But her eyes keep going over to Robert and Celia, and she senses something bad is going on.)

Robert: "You've talked to Holly today?"

Celia: "Yes. When she told me she was leaving today, I had to see her. I'm having trouble believing what has happened."

Robert: "I'm having the same trouble."

Celia: "Did you know it was today?"

Robert: "That she was leaving?"

Celia: "Yes."

Robert: "No, I couldn't believe she would leave so soon."

Celia: "I'm terribly sorry."

Robert: "Thank you."

Celia: "I don't know any of the details. I know there is Anna Devane in it somewhere."

Robert: "I love Holly. I haven't been unfaithful."

Celia: "I see."

Robert: "Anna was a part of my life Holly never knew about. It was over when I met Holly. But Holly can't accept a side of me she never knew about. It was a shocker. Everything shattered like glass."

Celia: "That's hard to put back together."

Robert: "Yes." (Felicia comes over with their coffee)

Celia: "Thank you."

Felicia (to Robert): "Anything I can do? I mean, is there anything else?"

Robert (warmly): "No to both, luv."

Felicia: "I.. I didn't mean..."

Robert: "It's all right. Thanks." (Felicia moves away and gets busy again.)

Celia: "I feel for Felicia."

Robert: "I don't even know where Holly's going."

Celia: "I don't either." (He gives her a doubtful look) "It's true, Robert."

Robert: "I thought she'd want at least one person to know. Her best friend."

Celia: "Holly said you'd get it out of me if she told me, and you would get it out me. I'd do anything to get you two back together. You see, I'm losing my best friend."

Robert: "I know. And they are hard to come by these days."

Celia: "You will see her before she goes, won't you?"

Robert: "I already have."

Celia: "It's over then, really over."

Robert: "I never knew I was capable of hurting anyone as much as I've hurt Holly."

Celia: "She won't just vanish from our lives, will she?"

Robert: "That's what she wants to do."

Celia: "A person can't just vanish."

Robert: "I did get one promise from her. She will call me before filing for a divorce."   (The Scene fades out...)
