Anna Rescues Robert; Robert's Unconscious
Air date is approximately March 21, 1991. Robert's trapped when someone has rigged the elevator to his penthouse.  Anna and Robert were planning a private date at his penthouse, and she's on her way to meet him there.  This transcript is taken from a script, so several of the words haven been changed on air since Tristan and Finola often ad- libbed their lines and many of the scenes have been edited slightly differently.

Scene:  Smoke continues to fill the elevator where Robert is trapped between floors.  Coughing badly, he continues to try the door.  Finally, he gives up, looks around for an alternative escape route, sees the trapdoor overhead, tries to jump to it, can't.  He climbs precariously onto the handrail and tries to lift it, can't.  It's blocked.  He drops down, coughing badly as he desperately pushes the disable emergency alarm button.

Cut to... Anna passing through on the docks.  She stops and turns sharply as she hears a wolf whistle from somewhere close behind her.  (This scene is quite different than what actually aired.)

Anna: "Oh grow up!"

Frisco (coming up to her, dressing in his cop's uniform): Sorry, Anna.  Couldn't help it."

Anna: "I ought to cuff you and take you to Juvenille Hall."  (she smiles)   "Or maybe just fink to your wife."

Frisco: "Go ahead.  Felicia whistles better than I do.  Looking pretty hot tonight."

Anna (pleased): "Thanks." 

Frisco: "It might not be such a good idea walking alone on the docks dressed like that.  Unless dropping in on Wilma's gave you some ideas about doing a little moonlighting."

Anna (worried): "I don't look 'cheap' do I?  That's the last thing..." 

Frisco: "No, no, no.  I'm kidding.  Really.  You look terrific.   Robert's not going to know what hit him.  That is who you're seeing, right?"

Anna: "I'm meeting him at Delafield's."

Frisco: "They're closed for inventory."

Anna: "It is."

Frisco: "Well, then why...."

Anna: "Tsk.. tsk.. And I thought you were bucking for detective?"

Frisco: "Ah, got it.  So if I see smoke coming from the building I'll just ignore it."

Anna: "Thanks.  Good night."

Frisco: "You too."

Anna (smiles): "Good night."

Cut to... The elevator is thick with smoke.  Robert, coughing thickly, holds a hankerchief over his mouth, but, despite his efforts, the smoke continues to overcome him.  He drops to his knees, nearly passes out, then drags himself to the doors and tries to breathe clean air from the crack in the elevator door as he's obscured by smoke.....  Scene fades out, then back later to Delafield's, where Anna's arrived in the bar area (the elevator's off to the far right corner).  She smiles as she hears the music playing (which Robert set up) and starts toward the elevator, changes her mind and moves behind the bar to check her makeup in the mirror.  Angel enters....

Angel: "Anna!  I was in the kitchen doing inventory when I heard the music playing."

Anna: "I don't want to bother you.  I know you're closed."  (She holds up her key chain)  "Robert gave me a key."

Angel: "Is he upstairs?"

Anna (nods): "That's why the music's playing."  (Robert and Anna agreed that whoever got to Delafield's first would put the music on.  Anna then sees Robert's note on the counter, smiling as she picks it up.)  "Your inventory's going to be short one bottle of brandy.  (Note- Brandy is Anna's favorite liquor.  Anna hands the note to Angel.)  "You can add this to his rent."

Angel: "From the way you're dressed, my guess is champagne would've been more appropriate."

Anna: "Hopefully, he already has some chilling."

Angel: "I have something in the kitchen that'll go real good with that.  What would you say to a plate of fresh shucked oysters?"

Anna (smiles): "I don't think we'll need them." 

Angel (obvious to her hint):  "It can't hurt."

Anna (smiles): "True.  Thanks." 

Angel: "I won't be a minute."  (He exits to the kitchen.  Anna completes her makeup check.  She wanders around for a moment, spots something on the floor, picks it up.  It's a Maritime button.  She shrugs, puts it in her pocket, sits on a bar stool and waits for Angel to return.)

Cut to... the elevator.  Robert is barely visible through the smoke, unconscious, slumped against the door.  Scene fades out, then back to Delafield's.  Angel returns with the oysters in an aluminum leftover dish.

Angel: "There you go.  And I put in some lemon wedges and Tabasco."

Anna: "Thanks."

Angel: "Enjoy."

Anna: "I'm sure we will."  (Angel exits.  Anna takes the oysters and her purse, moves over to the elevator and inserts her key.  We hear the hum of machinery as it descends.  The doors open and Robert's apparently lifeless body tumbles out in a billowing cloud of smoke.  Anna drops what she is carrying.)   "Robert!"  (The smoke begins to overwhelm her and she begins to cough as she drags Robert away from the elevator and out into the room.)   "Angel!  Help me!  Angel!  Angel!"  (They are clear of the smoke and she quickly ascertains Robert isn't breathing.  She begins administering mouth-to-mouth, stops, lays her head on his chest and listens to his heart, then begins mouth-to-mough again as Angel enters.)

Angel: "Anna... what's the... (He sees Robert lying on the ground.)  "My god!  What's happened?  Is he all right?"

Anna: "Call an ambulence.  His heart's still beating, but he isn't breathing."  (She resumes mouth-to-mouth as Angel rushes to the phone and quickly dials 911.)  "Come on.... come on...."

Angel (into the phone): "Send an ambulence and the fire department to Delafield's right away!"

Anna: "Com on, Robert.... breathe!  Come on... you can't die on me now!"   (She continues mouth-to-mouth.)

Scene fades out, then back later to Delafield's where Anna is frantically continuing her efforts to resuscitate Robert....

Anna: "Come on, come on, come on..."  (More mouth-to-mouth and then suddenly Robert comes to and begins coughing violently.)  "Thank god....."

Robert (through the coughing): "Something... exploded... There was smoke... doors were jammed and..." (More coughs)  

Anna (cradling him): "Ssssh... sssh... You're going to be alright."

Firemen rush in and head directly to the elevator, followed by Frisco and Tom, carrying an oxygen tank.

Frisco: "I heard the call.  What the hell is going on?" 

Robert: "Set me up... the scum set me up..."

Tom (to Robert as the paramedics put on the oxygen mask): "Don't talk.  Just try to relax and breathe."

Fireman #1: "Where's the access to the elevator shaft?"

Angel: "Basement.  Come on.  I'll show you."  (They exit.   Frisco puts a comforting arm around Anna as the paramedics administer the oxygen.)  

Frisco: "Do you know what happened?"

Anna (shakes her head and addresses Tom): "How is he, Tom?" 

Tom: "He's suffering from smoke inhalation.  His lungs could be damaged.   We need to check him out at GH."

Anna: "He wasn't breathing... I gave him mouth-to-mouth."

Tom: "Then you saved his life.  Any idea what caused the accident?"

Robert (ripping off the mask): "This wan't any accident."

Tom: "Relax..."

Robert: "How can I, damn it?  Someone tried to kill me and I know exactly who it is."  (He starts coughing again)  "My brother!"

Tom: "Put the mask back on..."

Robert: "I don't want to."

Anna: "Robert.  Do what he says.  For me."  (A look passes between them.  Robert relents.  Frisco comforts her as Tom refits the mask.)  

Tom: "Just try to take slow deep breath... there... that's good.  Just keep breathing... good... good."

Frisco: "You can start breathing too now, Anna."  (He smiles)   "He's going to be all right."

Scene fades out to commercial.   Continued in part 2.
