Tom: "We don't know how much damage there is to his lungs. We'll need to admit him for observation."
Anna: "I think you should go over to the hospital now."
Robert: "I'm not going anywhere and give Mac time to cover up his tracks."
Anna: "Tom?"
Tom: "You need further testing and possibly hyperbaric treatments to clear your system of carbon monoxide."
Robert: "I'm fine. I'm not going anywhere."
Paramedic #1: "Are you refusing treatment?"
Robert: "Yeah, I guess I am."
Paramedic #1: "You realize you're taking a risk." (Robert looks at him.) "We'll need you to sign this form releasing liability."
Robert: "Fine, fine." (He signs, then the paramedics leave.) "I can't believe I didn't see this coming. I should have known that bastard would come after me again." (Angel and fireman #1 return.)
Fireman #1: "The electrical fire's out. It was contained in the elevator shaft."
Robert: "Tell your chief to get his top arson investigator over here right away. Coordinate with forensics at PCPD. And make sure you keep a lid on it. I don't want anyone to know about this fire."
Fireman #1: "Yes, sire. Right away." (The firemen leave with Angel.)
Tom: "Listen, I better get going. Robert- if you experience any chest or throat pain, any difficulty breathing, I want you to come straight to GH and see a pulmonary specialist."
Robert: "I'm sure that won't be necessary. Thanks, Tom." (Robert starts moving towards the elevator.)
Anna: "Yes, thank you, Tom." (Tom exits. Frisco and Anna move into the elevator with Robert.)
Frisco: "What the hell do you think you're doing?"
Robert: "Looking for clues."
Anna: "You heard what Tom said..."
Robert (furious): "And you know what my brother did. He's not going to stop until he's killed me. And this attemp was a little too close for comfort. There was a flash behind this panel..." (He wobbles a little as he moves. Anna catches him, steadies him.)
Anna: "Robert!"
Robert: "I'm fine. Fine." (He pushes her away, then address Frisco) "Help me get this panel off."
Frisco: "No, sir."
Robert: "You disobeying a direct order?"
Frisco: "Yes, sir."
Robert: "Bloody hell. Doesn't anybody care that...." (He becomes woozy again)
Anna: "You have to take it easy."
Frisco: "I'll take care of the investigation."
Robert: "If you're asking to assign me..."
Frisco: "I'm telling you I'm doing it. Pull rank all you want to. This is my beat. I'm the investigating officer here. You're the victim. There's no way you can be objective."
Robert: "Don't you tell me..." (He looks around) "What the hell did I do with that brandy?"
Anna (steering him to a seat): "Brandy! What a lovely idea. Sit, darling and just let Frisco handle the rest."
Robert: "Oh hell, all right, but first thing...."
Frisco (interrupting): "Coordinate with the arson squad and forensics. Then go through the club with a fine tooth comb and sweep the docks for any witnesses."
Robert (approving): "Get on it right away."
Frisco: "Yes, sir." (He starts to leave)
Robert: "Make sure I'm kept informed!" (A smiling Frisco gives him a quick salute and exits. Robert finally allows Anna to park him on a bar stool. Angel hands her another brandy bottle and two glasses. She pours.)
Anna: "I'm giving you a stiff shot, then I'm getting up upstairs. You need to lie down for a while." (He nods and drinks the shot. They start to move.)
Robert: "So much for our romantic evening."
Anna (holds his hand): "I'm just glad that you're alive."
Robert: "Well, staying alive these days has become one of my habits." (He stops) "Hmph, I almost forgot."
Anna: "What?"
Robert: "You saved my life." (He kisses her)
Anna: "Twice... if you're counting."
Robert: "Well, then... " (And he kisses her again as they move out together.)
Anna (handing him the glass): "Here."
Robert: "I don't really... (want that).."
Anna: "Drink."
Robert (drinks the brandy): "Good. Thanks." (He wraps her in his arms) "I really thought I bought the farm down there. Couldn't breathe."
Anna: "Don't talk about it now."
Robert: "Know the last thing I thought of when I was passing out?" (She shakes her head.) "How thankful I was you didn't get here first." (They trade a loving look)
Anna: "Why don't you go lie down?"
Robert: "I'm fine. As soon as I grab a shower, I'm going to see if Frisco's come up with any clues."
Anna: "I think I already have one." (She pulls the button out of her pocket and shows him.) "I found this downstairs."
Robert (takes it from her): "A maritime button! Damn it! Look, this is solid proof Mac was the one behind this attempt- not to mention the others..."
Anna: "Maybe. What it proves to me is that you can't keep going after him alone."
Robert: "This is between me and him. Besides, I'm the one he's after."
Anna: "And what if he succeeds?"
Robert: "He won't."
Anna: "You may be willing to take that chance, but I'm not. Damn it, Robert. I just found you again after all these years. There's no way I'm going to risk losing you."
Robert: "You won't lose me, Anna."
Anna: "Do you have any idea what I went through when you came tumbling out of that elevator? And then when I discovered you weren't breathing?"
Robert: "I'm breathing now. And I plan to continue doing so."
Anna: "I want to help."
Robert: "No."
Anna: "With your permission or without it."
Robert: "I don't want you in danger."
Anna: "But it's all right for you? No. If you won't let me help you, you're as much as saying you don't give a damn about our future."
Robert: "That isn't true. Don't read things into this. I'll get Mac. He won't get me. I've got nine lives remember?"
Anna: "No, you don't, Robert. You never have. You've just been incredibly fortunate, that's all... And if you think you can continue to buck the odds, you're sadly mistaken." (She moves to the phone, picks it up, dials.)
Robert: "Who are you calling?"
Anna: "The one person who'd agree with me!"
