Anna Rescues Robert part
3- Robert's Outnumbered
Sean: "How you feeling, buddy?"
Robert: "Fine, thanks. Look, it wasn't my idea dragging you over here."
Sean: "I know that, and nobody had to drag me over. I'm glad Anna called. It doesn't appear she can save you from yourself along.
Robert: "The only one I have to 'save myself from' is Mac."
Sean: "That's why we're here. To help you. He's almost killed you twice. What if the third time's the charm?" (Robert tries to interrupt, but Sean won't let him.) "And don't start with the 'nine lives' bit again. I've known you a long time. And I've been counting."
Anna: "He's just beeing stubborn. Not that that surprises me. He still thinks he's some kind of super agent."
Robert: "Quite the contrary. I know exactly how vulnerable I am."
Sean: "Then why don't you want our help?"
Robert: "Because if Mac finds out, you'll also be potential targets."
Sean: "I'll take that chance."
Anna: "And so will I."
Robert: "I appreciate it, but I'm not about to let you."
Sean: "There's something you're forgetting." (He indicates the maritime button Anna's holding.) "What if it isn't Mac?"
Robert: "It has to be."
Sean: "No, it doesn't. You just want it to be. You have other enemies, you know."
Robert: "He's the one who's after me."
Sean: "And if you're wrong?"
Robert: "I'm not."
Anna: "Damn it, Robert, this obsession with your brother is leaving you wide open."
Robert: "I don't see how."
Anna: "What if someone knows how much you hate your brother?"
Robert: "So?"
Anna: "It's the perfect cover for someone else to try and kill you. The real killer could take you out anytime he felt like it, knowing you'd only be watching out for Mac."
Robert: "I hadn't thought of that."
Sean: "What if that button was a plant?" (Robert ponders.) "Is Mac the kind of guy who'd make that kind of obvious mistake?"
Robert: "No. But I still think it's him."
Anna: "Fine. And I think you're a blind fool!"
Robert: "All right!" (Then in a calmer tone) "All right. You may be right."
Sean: "You know she's right. We have to cover all the bases. If our years together in the WSB taught us anything, it should have taught us that."
Anna: "And if it isn't Mac? Then who?"
Robert: "You tell me. I've already got my suspect."
Sean: "We can't rely on the police department to cover you, nor can we risk the possibility of leaks or slip-ups."
Robert: "What do you suggest then?"
Sean: "Anna, and me."
Anna: "With Frisco as your personal bodyguard."
Robert: "No. Forget it!"
Anna: "Why not?"
Robert: "Because you're all my friends and I won't put you at risk."
Sean: "Yes, we are your friends. That's why we won't leave you out there in the cold."
Anna (goes to Robert, holds him): "Robert, we were a great team once, remember?"
Sean (approaches them): "No reason why we can't be again...." (He extends his hand. Anna reaches out, covers it with hers. They look at Robert, waiting.)
Anna: "You won't regret this."
Robert: "You may."
Sean: "Won't be the first time we've put ourselves at risk for each other."
Robert: "Hopefully, it won't be the last." (He puts his hand on top of theirs. The trio together again.)
Robert: "If Mac could sabatoge the SS Tracy, he sure as hell could have rigged that explosion in the elevator."
Sean: "Agreed. All the more reason to be careful."
Anna: "If Mac's the one who's doing this."
Robert: "I'm putting twenty-four hour surveillence on him immediately."
Sean: "And while you're keeping your eye on baby brother, Anna and I will check into other possible suspects."
Anna (regarding the button): "Starting with anyone who might possibly have a maritime affiliation. Looks like a couple of long days at the computer."
Robert: "Maybe you'll get lucky."
Anna: "I just hope your 'luck' holds."
Frisco (entering): "Nobody saw anything on the docks."
Sean: "Figures."
Frisco: "I'm going to check in with the arson squad. They're going through the club right now."
Robert: "No. They're a very thorough unit. We'll have their report tomorrow. I want you back on your beat."
Frisco: "Come on, Robert..."
Robert: "No arguements." (A disgruntled Frisco starts to leave.)
Sean: "Now, wait a minute." (To Robert) "We agreed he'd be your bodyguard."
Robert: "Let's not overdue this, shall we?"
Frisco: "Hey, somebody has to watch your back."
Robert: "I don't need baby-sitting." (They all stare at him.) "I'm not going to stand for this." (More cold stares.) "I'm perfectly capable of taking care of myself."
Sean: "Fine." (To Frisco) "What do you suppose the guys down at the PCPD are going to do when they find out their Commissioner's a walking target?"
Frisco (catching on to Sean's scheme): "You know how much everybody down there loves you..."
Robert: "Give me a break."
Frisco: "They'll be checking in on him all the time. Volunteering to keep an eye on you when they're off duty. You probably won't have a minute's peace."
Robert: "Just don't tell them."
Frisco: "Can't do that. Of course, I wouldn't have the chance to if I was your bodyguard."
Robert (outraged): "This is bloody blackmail!"
Sean, Anna, and Frisco in unison: "We know."
Robert (realizing he has no choice): "With friends like you..."
Frisco: "Please. Don't thank us. I hate it when you start getting mushy." (Anna and Sean laugh while Robert makes gagging motions.)
Anna: "I want you in bed."
Robert: "I thought you'd never ask." (He slips his arms around her waist and pulls her tightly against him.)
Anna: "That isn't what I meant. Tom said you had to get some rest."
Robert: "Tom didn't know about the romantic evening we had planned."
Anna: "And we didn't know somebody was going to try to kill you. Again."
Robert: "And both times you've been a lifesaver."
Anna: "So you owe me. Big time, right?"
Robert: "Right."
Anna: "And I've got an idea how you can pay me back."
Robert: "How?"
Anna (leans in, kisses him): "Cooperating." (Their passion builds.)
Robert: "I think you're right. It's time to go to bed." (He gives her a look, then they lay down onto the bed, kissing. Frisco enters, sees them, and loudly clears his throat. Robert's annoyed at the interruption.) "What?!"
Frisco: "If I prove myself an effective human shield, will you consider giving me that promotion?"
Robert: "If you take a couple of bullets, we'll talk. But in the meantime, if you're not out of here before I count to ten, you'll be Officer Flatfoot for the next ten years."
Frisco: "I'm afraid I can't do that. My assignment is to watch you. Constantly. Day and night. Everything you do..."
Robert: "Everything?!"
Anna: "I hate to say this, but he's right. The rest of our life is more important than tonight."
Robert: "Speak for yourself."
Anna (giving him a chaste kiss): "Good night, Robert. Sweet dreams." (Robert goes to kiss her passionately, but is aware of Frisco watching. He stops, gives her an equally chaste kiss on the cheek.)
Robert: "Yeah."
Anna (starting to leave): "Goodnight, Frisco." (She leaves. Robert angrily gets into bed.)
Robert (to Frisco): "Well, the least you can do is turn out the bloody light!"
Frisco (turns off the lights): "Good night, Robert. Sweet dreams."
Robert (furious, frustrated): "Good night!"
