from the Kimberly McCullough Friendship Association

Robert is sitting in a chair in the living room, staring off into space, brooding. Robin appears at the top of the stairs, in her pajamas. She sees Robert sitting there, and tiptoes down the stairs, runs across the room and over to where he’s sitting, and climbs into his lap.
Robert (surprised but pleased to see her):  "Well, this is a surprise."  (He helps her climb into his lap, and wraps his arms around her.)   "What are you doing up?"

Robin (snuggling into his arms):  "I wanted a glass of water, then I wondered if you were home. So I took a look."

Robert (in a goofy voice):  "And here I was."

He rubs noses with her, and she giggles. Robin then looks up into his face. After studying Robert’s expression for a moment, her smile disappears and she looks away, laying her head on his shoulder.

Robin:  "But maybe you’re not glad to see me."

Robert:  "What?"

Robin:  "You look so sad."

Robert:  "But look... I’ve got you in my arms now."   (He puts on a big, silly grin, making Robin laugh.)

Robin:  "That’s better!"  (They both laugh.)   "You know what’s good sometimes? To hear a story."

Robert:  "Well, what am I supposed to do? Tell myself a story?"

Robin:  "No."  (She giggles.)  "I could tell you one."

Robert:  "You could?"

Robin (nods):  "I used to tell my doll stories to get her to sleep. Sometimes she just couldn’t go to sleep without a story."

Robert:  "Well, I don’t necessarily want to go to sleep, but maybe, maybe a story would take my mind off work."

Robin:  "Let me see what I can do."  (She kind of shifts around in his arms, getting herself into a more comfortable position.)

Robert:  "Here we go. You more comfortable now?"

Robin:  "Yes."  (She shifts once more, then fixes her sleeve.)  "There, that’s better."  (She takes a deep breath, and begins.)  "Once upon a time, there was an island and all these little children lived on the island."

Robert:  "Little children? How old?"

Robin:  "Six and under."

Robert: Six and under? Who looked after all the babies?

Robin:  "The girls that were six. The babies were very loved and looked after."

Robert:  "I bet they were."

Robin:  "Anyway, the boys were busy getting coconuts and fish to eat. And then there were other boys always on top of the mountain. You know, on top of the mountain-looking for ships to come."

Robert:  "Oh I get it... they were shipwrecked?"

Robin (snuggling into Robert’s arms, rubbing her eyes.):   "I guess so. Anyway, they were there."

Robert:  "They were there. Right. They were there."

Robin (yawning, her voice drifting as she falls asleep):  "We were looking... waiting for our parents to come for us."

Robert:  "For us? Did they come?"  (His voice drops to a whisper, as he rests his cheek on the top of Robin’s head and holds her even more tightly.)  "Did they?"

He is sitting there, just holding a sleeping Robin in his arms, when Anna walks in.
Anna:  "Do you want me to take her?"

Robert:  "Just let me hold her for a little longer. I’m not going to have too many more opportunities before I return to Holly in Australia."   (He looks up at Anna.)  "Please, Anna... don’t look at me like that. I’m not leaving here till this little person is safe forever."

Anna (heartfelt):  "Thank you."

Robert (looks down at Robin affectionately, and rests his cheek on the top of her head again):  "I’m not leaving until I can provide for both of you. And until I can talk some sense into Felicia."

The scene fades out with Robert still holding a sleeping Robin tightly in his arms.
