Holly Learn's About Robert's Past with Anna

*This wonderful transcript was done by Anna on March 7 and 13, 2000 for the Robert and Anna Message Board. With permission, The Scorpio Files site is archiving her transcripts that are a month or more old.

Robert completes the search in Sean's penthouse and comes downstairs.

Sean: "Well?"

Robert: "Nothing."

Sean: "I told you."

Robert: "You've told me many things."

Sean: "What happens now?"

Robert: "You know that as well as I do."

Sean: "Look Robert, maybe we can work out some kind of arrangement."

Robert: "I really have nothing to say to you."

Sean: "What are you gonna do?"

Robert: "You don't leave me much choice (they stare each other down. Sean leaves the room and Robert watches his
back) End of the line."

Anna (frustrated): "I tried to talk to him. He won't listen."

Robert: "This could mean jail for all of us."

Anna: "I know."

Robert: "You may want to reconsider leaving Port Charles."

Anna: "If I don't?" (pause) "Robert? Are you gonna turn all of us in?"

Robert: "I have something more important to do first."

Anna: "What's that?"

Robert: "I want to tell Holly everything. I want to stop her suffering any longer."

Anna: "Well, you've been trying to protect her."

Robert (disgusted with himself): "Her or myself? No. Holly has to know the whole story before I do anything else."

Anna: "I think you're very wise. I know this hasn't been easy for you." (pauses with difficulty in saying her next words) "Don't lose the woman you love Robert. Hold on to Holly. You have something very special."

Robert: "I need to talk to her." (goes to leave, but Anna stops him)

Anna: "But listen, wait! Do it carefully. Be gentle. I know you have to say something but it's critical the way you say it. She loves you very much. Don't lose that."

Robert: "I'll try." (smiles at her concern) "What about you?"

Anna: "I'll just go home. There's nothing more for me to do here, really."

Robert: "You want a lift?"

Anna: "No, I can make my own way home. After all you've got enough to do." (He just looks at her for a moment and then leaves. Anna, knowing she's now alone, cries her heart out.)

Robert goes home to tell Holly everything. She's preparing a romantic dinner when he walks in.

Holly: "Good evening."

Robert: "Hi. Uh, what's this?"

Holly: "I thought you could probably use a drink."

Robert: "Doubt it'll help." (she hands him a glass)

Holly: "Shaken, not stirred. The way you like it."

Robert: "Thank you."

Holly: "To us." (Holly's all smiles. They clink glasses and drink. Robert looking extremely sad) "And this is just the prelude."

Robert: "To what?"

Holly: "To what I hope is gonna end up being a very nice romantic evening."

Robert (feeling guilt): "Holly."

Holly: "I know. I know. You're exhausted. Come and sit down. (she leads him to the couch) You just relax and I'll do all the work. Come on, sit down."

Robert: "Darling, it's just that what we need around here right now is something more than romance. It's a dose of the truth. Something which has been long overdue."

Holly: "You're right."

Robert: "So much to say."

Holly: "I'll start. I have a confession to make."

Robert: "You?"

Holly: "The secrecy of the last few weeks has really been getting to me I guess."

Robert: "I don't understand."

Holly: "Well, it was obvious that you had something to tell me and you just kept putting it off and finally when you were ready to tell me, we kept getting interrupted."

Robert: "I'm sorry about that."

Holly: "Since you told me that Anna was a WSB agent, I thought I would ask Sean about your relationship."

Robert (nervous): "What?"

Holly: "I know I shouldn't have."

Robert: "What did he say?"

Holly: "He told me the truth." (pause) "I know she was your partner. I feel so guilty about going behind your back. I know I shouldn't have, but it was ovbiously tearing me apart. I couldn't stand to watch it."

Robert: "Holly."

Holly: "I'm sorry."

Robert: "No. No. No. I am." (He pauses nervously) "But there's more. So much more. (takes a deep breath) Anna Devane wasn't only my partner at the WSB. She was also my wife."

The scene fades out... then returns later.
Holly (numb shock): "Repeat it. Repeat it!"

Robert (afraid of her reaction): "Anna Devane was my wife."

Holly: "Oh." (Robert goes to hug her) "No! Don't come near me!!"

Robert (pleading): "Holly."

Holly: "Stay away Robert, I mean it!" (Pauses as she tries to take in this info) "Do you know how I feel?"

Robert: "I think so."

Holly: "Totally and utterly cheated."

Robert: "I couldn't tell you before."

Holly: "Why not?"

Robert: "It was too painful."

Holly: "Well, what do you call this?"

Robert: "A memory best forgotten."

Holly: "Oh, you mean it would have been better if you could have gone on lying to me?"

Robert: "Holly, I know how you feel and I wasn't lying."

Holly: "Yes you were lying! You were living a lie! Our whole life has been a lie!"

Robert: "Holly, I understand how you feel."

Holly: "No, you couldn't possibly understand how I feel."

Robert: "Look, you have things in your past that are painful for you. I don't ask for explanations."

Holly: "Oh this is different."

Robert: "I don't see how."

Holly: "This directly affects our marriage. Not to mention our love. Nothing in my past has anything to do with us. Except for my relationship with Luke and you know everything about that."

Robert: "My relationship with Anna is history."

Holly: "Is it? Well then what prevented you from telling me the truth when she came- when your EX-WIFE showed up on our doorstep?!"

Robert: "It wasn't that simple."

Holly: "You mean there's more?"

Robert: "I'm afraid so."

Holly: "Dear Lord. It couldn't be any worse." (She sits and he sits beside her.)

Robert: "You're about to find out."

Holly: "I'm not sure that I want to."

Robert: "Anna was my wife but it cuts much deeper than that. It brings out secrets that I'd hoped would never be revealed."

Holly: "And why are you telling me now?"

Robert: "It wasn't till tonight that I realized I had to let you in on it."

Holly: "I'm not sure I want to be."

Robert: "Holly, I came to you because I love you. I want you to know, no matter how awful the story is, it's much more difficult for me not to tell you."

Holly: "Better for you maybe."

Robert: "It's a gigantic relief to suddenly have this off my chest. I hope that after I tell you everything, you'll understand why I did what I did. That I kept the secret to preserve our marriage."

Holly: "Oh, so you did it for me? Is that it?"

Robert: "Holly, listen to me! An innocent man died because of me. A woman I cared for betrayed me."

Holly: "Cared for? Don't you mean loved? Did you love Anna Devane?"

Robert: "Holly don't."

Holly: "Well you married her, you must have loved her! Tell me. Did you love her?"

Robert (goes to embrace her): "Yes but..."

Holly (She gets up and he tries to follow): "Don't touch me! Don't you touch me!"

Robert: "Holly."

Holly: "So this is your secret? I didn't realize it was gonna be quite that shocking. I can hardly wait to hear the rest."

Robert: "I'll tell you everything if I ever get a chance to get it all out!"

Holly: "This is why you wouldn't marry all those years afterwards?"

Robert: "Will you please stop throwing in the questions and let me explain!"

Holly: "What kind of a wedding did you have?"

Robert: "What difference does that make?"

Holly: "Because I want to know. Was it a planned thing or was it impromptu? Did you get married in a church?"

Robert: "Holly."

Holly: "Maybe that's why you didn't care whether we did or not."

Robert: "Holly!"

Holly: "You think these questions are trivial? Well, they're not. All these questions are very important to me."

Robert: "Stop. Stop this!"

Holly: "Well I want to know. I've gotta know everything!"

Robert: "If you'll just let me, let me talk, I'll tell you everything!"

Holly: "Were you happy together?"

Robert: "Wha... Why are you torturing yourself like this?"

Holly: "Because you already stuck in the knife. I'm just finding out how bad the wound is."

Robert: "Will you just listen to what I have to say!"

Holly: "Well I don't want to hear anymore lies."

Robert (Trying to stay calm with her): "I'm trying to tell you about my marriage to Anna and how she betrayed me."

Holly: "Oh and then how you turned right around and betrayed me, right?"

Robert: "Everything."

Holly (sits): "Oh well this is gonna be good."

Robert (sits): "Anna was a double agent."

Holly: "What?"

Robert: "I told you there was more to this."

Holly: "She was what?"

Robert: "The hardest part of this story is relating to the death of the Swede. He was one of our best men. We worked with him. We worked closely. When he died..."

Holly: "I thought you were gonna tell me about you and Anna."

Robert (finally fed up): "I'm talking about a betrayal dammit, now shut up and let me finish!!!" (Holly stunned by his shouting, he waits for her to compose herself) "I knew Anna was the double agent and I didn't say anything. Had I known that Sean was going to execute the Swede for being the traitor, well, it doesn't matter anymore. We all made our choices. Except the Swede. He paid for ours with his life."

Holly (blind fury): "And you let it happen?"

Robert: "I didn't prevent it."

Holly (disgust in her voice): "Because of HER. You of all people!"

Robert: "I'm not defending what I did."

Holly: "I respected you! And Lord knows I loved you. But respect and admiration- that was all a part of it. I worshipped you! Oh God, what a joke! I wonder what all our friends or what the city's gonna think of their knight in tarnished armor!"

Robert: "What others think isn't important. You're the one I care about."

Holly: "You've thrown everything away! You've thrown away our marriage! Our marriage certificate is worth about the same as all those plaques in your office! Everything's phony!"

Robert: "Our marriage? It's real. You know it."

Holly: "I don't know you!"

Robert: "You're my wife!"

Holly: "But you're not my husband! The man that I married could never have done what you did."

Robert: "I'm not proud of what I did. I just couldn't let it continue without telling you."

Holly: "Well why bother now?"

Robert: "Cause it would have surfaced sooner or later."

Holly: "Why? Because Anna wants you back?"

Robert: "Remember the Aztec Treasure?"

Holly: "What's that got to do with it?"

Robert: "Sean stole it. Anna is involved. The three of us haven't been together since- anyway, I couldn't let all the lies continue."

Holly: "Why? For my sake or for Anna's sake? Don't even bother answering that because it probably wouldn't be the truth!"

Robert: "I love you!"

Holly: "I'm gonna get some air. (goes to the door) Just want to ask you one question before I go. Did you love Anna as much as you love me?"

Robert: "Holly don't."

Holly: "Did you or didn't you love her as much as you love me?"

Robert: "In a different way." (She goes to leave) "Holly!"

Holly: "And don't you try and follow me because if I wanted to have anything to do with you, I'd be staying right here!" (She walks out and slams door leaving Robert standing in the middle of the room, numb and alone.)

I posted this scene because even though Holly is involved, it is an integral part of the story and I see no harm in posting
it considering that Robert is 50% of this riveting scene. There will always be a few vigils that don't focus solely on
Robert and Anna because I'd like to make sure that you all capture the full story just the way it was. And I hope it's
understood that this was in no way an attempt to bash the character of Holly, so please no complaints in that respect.
