Anna's Job is Threatened

This is taken from a script, so the actual aired scene maybe a little different, depending on how much the scene was ad-libbed from the script.

This scene takes place in Anna's office.  It's the morning of January 2nd (or at least that's what the airdate is scheduled as).  Anna's studying a pad in front of her on the desk, drumming her pencil thoughtfully.  The intercom goes off, and she picks it up.

Anna: "Yes?  Of course.  Send him right in."  (Buzz opens the door immediately and enters.)

Buzz: "Dr. Stryker, reporting in."

Anna: "Excuse me, sir.  But this is police headquarters.  I think you want General Hospital."

Buzz: "I thought the uniforms looked peculiar out there."  (They laugh.)   "My day off.  I thought I could interest you in an early breakfast.   But when I stopped by the townhouse, you'd already left."

Anna: "I couldn't sleep.  I woke up at the crack of dawn."

Buzz: "Had your breakfast?"

Anna (gesturing at the coffee mug on her desk):  "Just finished it."

Buzz: "Can you use some company?"

Anna: "Delighted.  This murder case... is murder.  Really mind-boggling.   How would you like to be my sounding board?"

Buzz: "I'm not Bert Ramsey, but I'll do my best."

Anna: "Not that I have any answers yet.  But I've got dozens of questions."

Buzz: "Fire away.  What have you got?"

Anna: "A murder with a big cast of characters.  Characters who are all related to each other in varying degrees.  And who lived in close proximity."

The scene changes to the Brownstone gang, then returns to PCPD headquarters.  He looks at the note pad over Anna's shoulder while she begins explaining what she's put down in writing.

Anna: "It's a case where each and every clue relates to every person who lives at the brownstone."

Buzz: "Fascinating."

Anna: "And maddening.  Look at this list of..."  (She stops as Frisco and Felicia open the door and stand in the doorway.)

Frisco and Felicia (in unison): "Hi!"

Felicia: "Happy New Year, Anna.  Buzz."

Frisco: "Made all your New Year's resolutions?"

Anna (only half joking): "I know a resolution you two can make.  Do not enter offices without being announced."  (Frisco and Felicia look at each other.)

Frisco: "Nobody out front.  So we thought we'd announce ourselves."

Felicia (holds him back): "Okay if we come in?"

Anna (smiles): "You might as well.  I'm giving Buzz the rundown on the murder case.  If you'd like to join us?"  (Frisco and Felicia enter the room fully.)  "I've made a chart.  The cast of characters and their inter-relationships.  Have a look."  (Frisco and Felicia come over and join Buzz, looking at Anna's note pad.)

Felicia (points to sketch): "Looks like an astrological chart."

Anna: "Call this the Laurelton Constellation.  The center star, of course, is Terry."

Buzz: "A very volatile star."

Anna: "And totally unpredictable.  Whatever she does seems to affect the surrounding stars... (She points at the pad.)  "..meaning Kevin, Patrick, Ted Holmes, and of course, Jennifer."

Frisco (points): "And those two?"

Anna: "Neil Johnson and Earl Moody.  Johnson is dead.  And Earl has been missing from Laurelton since the night of a Valentine's Day dance three years ago.  A dance which is referred to on the inside of Terry's hymnal book."

Buzz: "I'm a little lost at this point.  What about the dance?"

Anna: "I don't know much about it yet.  Patrick says he was there.  Kevin says he himself was not there."

Buzz: "And Terry?"

Anna: "Terry is very vague about it.  But nervous... and getting more so."

Buzz: "And as you say... as Terry goes, so goes the rest of the cast of characters."

Anna: "Kevin, Patrick, Jennifer and Holmes are all walking on eggshells.  Waiting for the sky to fall in.  And the question is why."

Buzz: "Any theories?"

Anna: "No.  Just a lot of questions."  (She turns the pad to the next page.)  "What does Terry know that sets them all on edge?  What are her nightmares... and why does she have them?  Do her nightmares have anything to do with the murder of Neil Johnson?  Or the reason behind his murder?  Or are her fears related to Earl Moody's disappearance the night of the dance?"

Frisco: "And what went on at the dance?"

Anna: "Yes.  I have to find out what happened on that night three years ago.   It's my objective for today."

Buzz: "I'm remembering what Dr. Stone said about questioning Terry.  'Go lightly with her.'"

Anna: "I may not deal with Terry today.  I thought I'd concentrate on Kevin and Patrick O'Conner instead."  (She pushes the buzzer on the intercom.)

Clerk: "Yes, Miss Devane?"

Anna: "I want to see Kevin and Patrick O'Conner as soon as possible.  You'll find their numbers in the brownstone murder file."

Clerk: "I'll get it."

Anna: "Immediately, please."  (She clicks off the intercom.)

Frisco: "This is starting to get interesting.  Too bad I have to get to class."

Anna (teasing): "Too bad you want to be a cop."

Frisco: "I'd learn more by sticking around this office."

Anna: "I'd love to accomodate you.. but I don't think your instructor would appreciate it."

Frisco: "Too bad I don't have a bona fide reason for being here."

Buzz: "Like me."  (He and Anna laugh.)

Anna: "It's Buzz's day off."

Buzz: "Any port in a storm."

Frisco: "Speaking of storms... Guy Lewis, I'd better get to class."

Felicia: "I'm heading back to the brownstone, I've got a meeting with Sean in Jake's office."  (She takes out her car keys.)  "I'll drop you off, Frisco."  (Frisco slips his arm around her and they go out.  Ken Morgan is coming in, looking as Frisco and Felicia squeeze past him.)

Ken: "You need a traffic cop at the door, Miss Devane."

Buzz: "I'll be right outside."  (He leaves, acknowledging Ken on the way out.)  "Mr. Morgan."

Anna: "Shall I have the clerk bring you something?  Coffee?  Tea?"

Ken: "No thanks.  Your clerk's not at his desk, anyway."

Anna: "He's getting a file."

Ken: "Yes, I saw him.  He seems a little disorganized."

Anna: "He's still getting used to a front-desk job."

Ken: "I'm sure."

Anna: "You'll be getting used to a new desk yourself, Mr. Morgan.  Are you uh... anxious to get started in the Mayor's job?"

Ken: "I'm too busy tying up loose ends in my old job.  One loose end in particular."

Anna: "I see."

Ken: "The brownstone murder."

Anna: "Interesting case."

Ken: "The media seems to think so."

Anna: "Oh?  I haven't seen too much in the media."

Ken: "That shouldn't surprise you.  You haven't given the press anything to write about. So they communicate with me instead.  Am I making my point, Miss Devane?"

Anna: "Could you be more specific?"

Ken: "I'm getting a lot of pressure from the press, now that Ramsey's out of commission."  (Note- Bert's laid up after Frisco accidently wounded him during a academy training session.)

Anna: "Pressure?  I don't understand."

Ken: "Of course you don't.  You haven't been on the job long enough."

Anna: "Is that an observation, or a judgement?"

Ken: "As it happens, the press is questioning my judgement in allowing a new co-chief to be in charge of the Brownstone murder investigation."

Anna: "Do you think that's valid?  Why shouldn't I be in charge of the case?"

Ken: "You have the title of co-chief, nothing more.  That's how the media sees it."

Anna: "I beg your pardon.  If the media thinks that because I'm a woman I'm not qualified, they've got a lot to learn.  Or are they taking their cue from you, Mr. Morgan?"

Ken: "They complain... and I listen.  That's all."

Anna: "That's not exactly a reassuring answer."

Ken: "Take it anyway you want.  You wouldn't be under fire, if you'd come up with some breaks in the case.  And you'd better come up with something soon."   (She stares hard at him.)

Anna: "Or what?"  (He looks at her sharply.)

Ken: "Just find the murderer.  I don't like starting my term as mayor under a cloud of unfinished business.  It's not the way I like to make my exit as District Attorney either."

Anna: "Correct me if I'm wrong.  But I get the feeling I'm being threatened."

Ken: "Nothing personal."  (He walks toward the door, and turns around as he leaves.)  "If there's no action on this case soon, I'll have to consider assigning someone else to take charge of it."  (He leaves.  The camera stays on Anna's strained face.  Buzz enters the room, closing the door behind him.)

Buzz: "How'd it go?"

Anna: "Don't you notice something different about the temperature in this room?  The heat is on."
