Duke Bails Out Angel

*This wonderful transcript was done by Anna on March 19, 2001 for the Robert and Anna Message Board. With permission, The Scorpio Files site is archiving her transcripts that are a month or more old.

After a wonderful evening with her mystery man, Anna is called away from the ball on police business. Guy Lewis fills her in on the arrest of a man called Angel.

Guy: "While I was interrogating Mr. Angel Moran, his high priced lawyer came in, started making a lot of noise about getting Mr. Moran out on bail."

Anna: "An expensive lawyer?"

Guy: "Oh yeah. I could smell him from a mile away."

Anna: "But Angel Moran's not the sort that can afford an expensive lawyer."

Guy: "No, he's not. But he's got a rich friend."

Anna: "Oh he does? Who is it?"

Duke: "Me." (He has a big smile on his face)

Anna (turns around to look at him. She's surprised and confused): "You?"

Duke: "To be sure."

Anna (angered now): "Who are you?"

Duke: "Duke Lavery."

Anna: "Duke Lavery?"

Guy: "I was just getting to that, chief."

Anna: "Oh yes. I know the name. I know the name and I know a little bit about the person."

Duke: "I know a lot more about you, Ms. Devane. I liked your speech this evening, by the way."

Anna (cautious and annoyed): "Thank you."  (She pauses)  "Do you know that there is a club on the waterfront called 'Duke's'?"

Duke: "I own it."

Anna: "Do you? Really. Well that is high on my list of places to investigate."

Duke (amused): "Oh, do come as a guest sometime, Ms. Devane, but not with a warrant. And there'll always be a sprig of heather at your table."  (He goes to touch the heather she has pinned to her dress and she pulls back)

Anna: "Well, I think at the moment, we ought to concentrate on your connection to our prisoner, Angel Moran."

Duke: "You know, friendship is a weakness of mine."

Anna: "Angel is a friend of yours?"

Duke: "Since my time on the NYC docks."

Anna: "Oh really. Now with that accent, I do find that rather hard to believe."

Duke: "Oh I never lost my accent, even when I came to America from Scotland. And your accent?"

Anna (frustrated by his calm demeanor): "At the moment, the subject is Angel Moran. Do you know that the man is a crook?"

Duke: "No. Angel just has a little proclivity for danger that most spirited men have."

Anna: "And you? What about you Mr. Lavery?"

Guy: "Chief, could I interrupt here?"

Anna: "Yes, of course."

Guy: "I have some paperwork for Mr. Lavery to fill out."

Duke: "Well there's no way to avoid that, I suppose."

Guy: "Afraid not."

Duke: "Perhaps you could help?" (He smiles at her)

Anna: "I really don't think so." (She storms off as he watches, entertained by her anger)
