Duke Plans to Hire Felicia

Felicia wants to work for Duke and she picks Anna as a reference.  Anna's working at the office when suddenly there's a knock on the door.

Anna: "Yes?"

Duke (enters): "Hello again."

Anna (less than thrilled): "Mr. Lavery."

Duke: "I hope I'm not disturbing you."

Anna: "Yes, as a matter of fact, I'm very busy."

Duke: "I'll get straight to the point. I've come here on business."

Anna: "Well I'm surprised to know what type of business we could possibly have with each other."

Duke: "Well your name was given to me as a reference."

Anna: "By?"

Duke: "Miss Felicia Cummings. I take it you do know the young lady?"

Anna: "Yes I do. Very well. What? She wants to work for you?"

Duke: "That surprises you?"

Anna: "Whatever the girl wants to do for a living is her business."

Duke: "And if she wants to do it for me, that's my business."

Anna: "Are you thinking of hiring her?"

Duke: "Well that depends on what you have to tell me."

Anna: "Well if I were her employer, I would hire Felicia in a second. If I didn't have an opening for her, I would make one."

Duke: "You feel so strongly about her abilities?"

Anna: "Absolutely. She's bright, she's trustworthy, she's hardworking, dependable..."

Duke: "She's also a friend."

Anna (annoyed): "That has absolutely no bearing on my evaluation on her potential performance as a business woman."

Duke: "I expected that much."

Anna: "I would give Felicia Cummings a very high recommendation whether she were a friend of mine or not."

Duke: "I expected that too."

Anna: "And what else did you expect?"

Duke: "I live and die by my instincts. From the first moment I meet a person, I know whether we'll get along."

Anna: "Congratulations."

Duke: "I am unerringly accurate, especially when it comes to beautiful young women. I do hope we can put this little morning's misunderstanding behind us. I certainly bear no grudges."

Anna: "Why should you?"

Duke: "Well I hope you don't either. I very much would like to capture our original rapport."

Anna: "We had a rapport?"

Duke: "Please reconsider my invitation to dinner."

Anna: "Mr. Lavery, I have already explained tonight that..."

Duke: "I know. You're very busy."

Anna: "Yes. You think I'm not?"

Duke: "I think you're trying to put me off."

Anna: "I'm going to General Hospital to visit a sick friend. Don't you believe me?"

Duke: "Oh yeah, I believe you. I mean, it could be much worse. You could have told me you were going home to wash your hair."

Anna: "I really am going to General Hospital."

Duke: "This friend. Male or female?"

Anna: "Does it make a difference?"

Duke: "Male, right?"

Anna: "Yes, as a matter of fact, yes."

Duke: "Figures."

Anna: "Well, you satisfied?"

Duke: "No. I don't suppose I will be, this evening at any rate. But as they say, "Tomorrow is another day."

Anna: "Yes. The eternal optimist."

Duke: "No. Just a man who gets what he wants when he wants it. I'll see you around chief."
