Robert Takes Care of a Drunk Anna

Duke's been arrested after shooting Bert Ramsey.  He finally confesses to an angry Robert and Anna that not only was he a member of the mob, but he proposed to Anna under orders from the mob.  Robert looks after Robin that evening, while Anna goes off to be alone.  She arrives home, completely drunk, and waits in the living room for Robert.

Anna: "Hello."  (she clears her throat)  "Hello..."

Robert (coming in the living room): "Well, there you are."

Anna (swaying a little): "There you are.  Here we both are."

Robert: "Robin dropped off to sleep."

Anna: "Good.  Well, I hope you caught her."

Robert (realizing she's wasted): "Good thing you weren't driving tonight."

Anna: "For your information, I walked... walked home."

Robert: "You know, I don't recall ever seeing you like this.  Did we have one too many, hmm?"

Anna (walking around to the front of the couch, followed closely by Robert):  "Look, I am not driving in the privacy of my own home.  And I can drink with im....."

Robert (amused that she's not making any sense): "um hum?"

Anna:   "With im..."  (she's having problems saying what she means)   "...without having to answer to you."  (she sits down on the couch, sighing)  "It's such a mess."

Robert (taking her shoes off): "Well I can see intelligent conversation's out for the evening.  Why don't you go to bed?"

Anna: "No. It hurts too much."

Robert: "Well, you can't hold it in. You gotta let it out.  You gotta jump up and down, and yell and screech, and throw things.  You can't feel sorry for yourself, that's no good."  (he runs his hand over her cheek)  "C'mon, hum?"

Anna (getting a little sobby): "What do you care anyway, huh?  It's all your fault."  (she lays her head on his shoulder)  "If you hadn't left me, I would never have fallen in love with a crook."

Robert (surprised): "Huh?"

Anna: "Why did you let me fall in love with him?"  (she smacks his chest)  "Why did you let me make such a fool of myself?  Oh, I always fall for the wrong man."  (Robert looks mildly insulted here, since he's one of those men)

Anna (talking to the air): "Ladies, ladies, if you need to know if your man's right for you or not, why don't you come and ask me.  Because if I like him, see, then I know... then I know.."  (she struggles to stand up)  "... he's the wrong, wrong one.. oh!"  (her balance becomes unsteady and she falls.  Robert grabs her around the waist before she falls to the ground.  She shrugs him off.)

Anna: "What am I gonna lose, my dignity?"  (she shakes her finger at him)  "Mr. Lavery took care of that."  (Robert shakes his head yes, and Anna does too)  "Yeah."  (in a quiet voice)  "I  loved him, Robert.  I really loved him.  But he lied, he lied... he lied... " (she starts walking towards the kitchen, Robert follows behind her again)  "And he lied to my baby, he lied to my baby... he lied to Robin... and he lied to me."

Robert (putting his hands on her shoulders, veering her back towards the couch): "Um hum?"

Anna: "And I'm just a loser."

Robert: "No."

Anna (nodding her head): "I am."

Robert: "No."

Anna: "Yes I am.  I'm just a loser."

Robert: "No, you're not."

Anna: "Yes I am..."  (she passes out, Robert catching her and putting her on the couch).

Robert: "Dear, oh dear.  Anna...."  (he brushes her hair out of her face)

Anna (waking for a moment): "I feel sick."  (she then falls asleep)

Robert: "Oh..... Anna, Anna, Anna.  Oh Anna," (he covers her with an afghan) "there's so much Robin, so much like Robin you are."  (he kisses her forward)
