Anna and Duke Fight Over Robin and Robert

Robin finds Duke in the park and gets him to go home with her because she has a present for him. Anna's told him she wants nothing to do with him, but he's been trying to get her to take him back. Duke's humiliated when he arrives at Anna's to find her with Sean and Robert, who just arrived unexpectedly that morning.  Robin's thrilled, jumping into her father's arms.   Quickly making an exit, he goes back to the club, upset and jealous.  Anna arrives later, just after a Duke tosses down a glass in frustration.

Anna: "Having problems are we?"

Duke: "It was an accident.  You dragged yourself from the family reunion?"

Anna: "I cut it short to come see you actually."

Duke: "I'm flattered, thank you."

Anna: "Don't be."  (she takes a deep breath)  "We've got to sort something out."

Duke: "You've made your feelings clear."  (he turns his back to her and goes to the bar)

Anna: "Then why do you continue to disregard them?"

Duke: "You know the answer to that."

Anna: "Robin loves you.  I haven't forbidden her to come see you, but I will if you continue to do this."

Duke (turns around, confused): "Do what?"   

Anna: "You use her to get to me."

Duke (angrily): "What the hell is the matter with you, woman?! You know what that child means to me.  I love her dearly.  I'd never use her to get to you."  

Anna: "Oh, C'mon Duke."

Duke: "What, you don't believe me?  If I want to come to see you, I'll come as a man, not clinging to some little girl's skirt.  You want to slam the door in my face, that's your privilage.  But don't you ever accuse me of exploiting her affections to get my own end, do you understand that!"  

Anna (ashamed): "Sorry."  

Duke: "Yeah, you should be sorry."  (turning away from her)  "Unlike other people, I don't call in outside help to solve my problems."

Anna: "Meaning what?"

Duke: "Meaning Robin didn't send for Robert this time, she said so herself."

Anna: "You think I did?  Oh, do you think I'm in such a mess that I had to send for my knight in shining armour?"

Duke: "Well, it certainly seems that way.  You remember what you said to me yesterday?  You told me Robert was you first love, you never said anything about him being your last."

The scene fades out for commercial, then comes back.....

Anna (shaking her head): "I don't believe this."

Duke: "Oh what, you're denying you sent for Robert?" 

Anna: "I didn't send for Robert."

Duke (in disbelief): "He just appeared out of thin air?"

Anna: "He came for his own reason and they have nothing to do with us."

Duke: "And what does his lovely wife think about this?"

Anna (quietly, looking away): "She's dead."  

Duke (apologizes): "I'm sorry.  I didn't know that, I'm sorry."

Anna: "I just found out myself."

Duke: "So Robert's come here to spend time with you and Robin, is that it?" 

Anna: "Well, I don't think there's much left for him in Australia."

Duke: "What are his plans?"

Anna: "Regarding what?"

Duke: "Well, dealing with his life, occupying his time, making a living?"

Anna (looking directly at him): "He's gonna be working with me."

Duke: "Oh."

Anna: "I've asked him to be my partner in a dectective agency."

Duke: "I see.  What else?"

Anna: "That's it."  (she turns and begins walking away)

Duke: "I don't think so." 

Anna (stops, comes back): "Excuse me?  What else could there be?"

Duke: "You tell me.  I think you're hiding something."

Anna (narrowing her eyes): "Like what?"

Duke: "Well, like reason #1, you're not trying to deny it.  Reason #2, it's written all over your face.  I think there's more than a private investigation agency at stake here.  What are you hiding?"

Anna (avoiding his question): "My relationship with Robert hasn't changed.  I'm still as independant as I ever was, and just as impatient."

Duke: "Don't con me, Anna.  What are you trying to hide?"  (he narrows his eyes at her)  "Who's keeping secrets how, Anna?"

She doesn't answer, but turns and slowly walks out.
