Put on by the hospital staff and
friends to raise funds and awareness for AIDS research. Many people from GH
participate & the remarkable Lucy Coe acts as hostess. Just watching Lucy change
in and out of her gowns is a mind boggler. And there's usually at least one cat
fight, usually between Lucy & her assistant Amy, althought Katherine Bell has tried to
take away the spotlight for herself (conviently forgetting that she almost caused the
downfall of one of the balls when she tried to sabotage Lucy). Robin has
participated in 4 of the 5 Nurses's Balls to date.
In 1995, Stone reveals
his medical condition after AJ badmouths the people with AIDS at the nurses' ball. Stone's
illness from AIDS also causes Mac to rethink his opinion of Stone after Mac realizes how
much his neice loves Stone. Surprising everyone by reaching out to Stone and
supporting Robin, Mac helps Robin through Stone's last days. At the 1996 Nurses' ball, Mac presents a stunned Robin with a AIDS quilt in memory of her boyfriend, Stone. The quilt depicts the words "Stone" and a robin soaring above a bridge under a starry night. This bridge was a special spot for Robin and Stone, particularly in the last days of Stone's life. Also surprised are the rest of the audience, particularly Sonny and Luke. With tears streaming down her face, Robin gives her speech, but ends up breaking down at the end. Singer Janis Ian also performs her song "When Angels Cry", which is associated with Stone. In 1997, Robin returns
from Yale to give her annual speech. Outside the ballroom, she stops when she see's
Stone's panel on display, gingerly touching it before being interrupted by Jason
Morgan. Others also stop to stare sadly at the panel, including Brenda &
Sonny. And in 1998, she performed "Someone to Watch Over Me" with Alan Quartermaine and Ned Ashton, who had to step in when his drugged out uncle dropped Robin during the performance. She also later that night performed "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun," a fun number that included Scotty Baldwin with his daughters Serena & Karen; Edward Quartermaine with granddaughter Emily; and Mac with his neice Robin, and his soon-to-be stepdaughters Maxie and Georgie (who's not in this pic). |
